anyone know the tracking weight on this stylus/cartridge?

so, i just installed the "LP Gear Rx9HE stylus" on my music hall tracker cartridge on my music hall MMF-2.2 TT. the recommended tracking force on this cartridge (with the stylus from the factory) is about 1.75 grams. i had it set at 1.89, but when i re-weighed the tracking force with the new stylus it reads 1.83. is this a good weight for this stylus/cartridge combo? am i good to go? i try to contact the place where i bought this from, but they are slow to return my email.

Same type of stylus?

The short answer is I don't know. But, if it's the same type of stylus, you're still in the ballpark and aren't likely to do any damage if that's what you are worried about.

yes, it's the same type of stylus...

...i would say. both stylus have a plastic casing and (casing) are shaped the same.

Both elliptical tipped?

It's pretty common to ride on the heavier side of tracking force, within the suggested range.

yes...

both elliptical tipped. actually, the new stylus says it's hyper elliptical (i think). and yes i would agree that a lil on the heavier side is better. maybe i'll move it back to 1.89. one other person on this forum recommended anywhere from 1.8 to 2.2 for this cartridge.

The tracking force on a cartridge is often set too light, and some degree of mistracking will occur.

This can be subtle, and not obvious, but it can cause excessive record wear.

I recommend tracking at 2.0 to 2.2 grams.

Anything less is probably too light for the arm/cartridge combination.

You could track at 2.5 grams and not hurt a thing, but tracking too light can and often does cause problems and excessive record wear.

no problem...

because I will be returning this stylus. the treble isn't as good as the original. oh well, I tried. also, I will reset my tracking weight to 2.0. thanks again commsysman.
