I need to behave this year with spending on A/V, but perhaps listeners (with direct experience) could either give input on the Soundsmith Carmen?
I might not get lucky, but it's worth a try in asking.

I've used a Grado for nearly 7 years and it's great. I haven't heard Soundsmith but they are the same technology and similar build. They tend to be a little noisier however you're rewarded for your forgiving it with MC like detail and ambiance and MM like punch and swing. If you don't plan on investing in top notch MC ancilleries you really can't beat a MI design. I don't know why more high end companies don't specialize in them. Other than that whole thing about naked kings.
