But Mr. Bowers warns against fixating on minute technical details. Better to spend your time at thrift stores finding music that will never appear on a CD.

i thought the article was very fair maybe even positive. the quote about perfect pitch was from another source, not the reporter. it was meant to be a quick primer on what the rest of the world sees as a curious phenomonon. he did not comment about the young lady's enjoyment of vinyl. if i had read it with no knowledge of vinyl, it would make me curious. i think that is a good thing.

That's a nioe, positive article. It was interesting to see that women has listening sessions with her friends now. She's been draw into the music. The flaws in the article are minor. It really accomplishes the goal of explaining a life style choice that becoming more common again.

Agreed, a good article without making the folk who listen seem like idiots or a cult.

My apologies to the NY Times then. Next time I'll read the whole thing before jumping in. However, the NY TImes HAS run a series of articles over the last few years denigrating audiophiles and their preferences.

The cynical hacks that usually write for The New York Times must all be on vacation because someone over there took the time to interview manufacturers of high end turntables (Sumiko and Walker), discuss the differences between direct drive and belt drive, and the importance of proper cartridge alignment. To top it all off no one is made to look like a kook or a crackpot. Be careful New York Times you might lose the scorn of audiophiles everywhere for your audio coverage.
