amp-preamp-source volume settings?

Is there a general rule of thumb for setting volume levels when you have a separate amp, preamp and source?

(ie - should two of the three have specific, unchanging settings and the third be used for volume control?)

FWIW, I'm using an Antique Sounds preamp, a Trends Micro amp and an Oppo 980h.

tks,

Scott A.

Have you reconfigured to Trends to work as a power amp? If so, the volume control is effectively removed from the circuit. If not... now might be a good time to do so. Check the manual.

I completely forgot about this when I added the pre-amp. Can failing to reconfigure make the system sound worse?

edit - And I keep calling 'Trends Audio' 'Trends Micro.' Too much time on the computer side of things, I guess.

Haha, its cool. I myself have a Trends. I don't think you can ruin anything, I just think it will degrade the signal a little. If you have a preamp, you only need to use the Trends as a power amp - the pot it has is a little week.

Reconfigured today - thanks.

Y'know what? That's a nicely laid out little box.
