I generally don't comment on photos, but here is an exception. As an unreconstructed whip of a metalhead, as well as reconstructed jazzhead, Alex Skolnick, for me, is my favorite musician, having mastered two very different music genres very important to me. He was the lead guitarist and major songwriter for thrash metal band Testament. In his twenties, he heard a Miles Davis record, was transformed, and decided he needed to learn jazz guitar. He soon realized he could not master jazz part time, and so he did the unthinkable - he quit a successful career in Testament, and enrolled at the New School in New York City, eventually earning his degree. He then formed a jazz threesome from fellow New School Musicians, and has released four straight ahead jazz releases, the first one of jazz interpretations of metal songs, which earned a coveted four and a half star rating in Downbeat. He has also played at jazz clubs like the Iridium, rejoined Testament, not to mention his stint in the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
