Albums with good imaging

Hi all,

I recently purchased my first stereo setup. The components are an NAD C315 integrated amp, NAD C515 CD Player, Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 speakers, a Pro Ject Phono Box II preamp, and the Technics/Panasonic RD-2900 turntable that I've had for a couple of years.

I am working with speaker placement, and am looking for albums that would clearly demonstrate imaging. As this is my first time placing speakers, I can't definitely say, "This album is really well recorded and will help me place the speakers because I know the (insert instrument here) should come from (insert direction from listening position here)." Any suggestions on either CD or LP would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Hi again,

It appears I've answered my own question. It appears that Stereophile sells a variety of test CDs here that should cover things. Now I know.

Re: Albums with good imaging

I have several CD's from Reference Recording that have excellent imaging (and very nice performances). Two of my faves are both performed by the Minnesota Orchestra under Eije Oue: Rachmaninoff Symphonic Dances, and another disc with Copland Symphony 3 and Appalachian Spring.
