Martin Colloms reviewed the Sonus Faber Guarneri Homage loudspeaker back in 1994, finding that "Sonus Faber provides a fascinating and challenging insight into the art of high-quality sound reproduction." But does the diminutive Guarneri breathe real music? Colloms reports.

From the 1988 archives, John Atkinson lends an ear to the Celestion SL700 loudspeaker. Having used the company's SL600 as a small speaker reference for five years, JA set out to determine whether the SL700 could take its place.

Next we have a recent follow-up by Jonathan Scull on the Wadia 27ix & 270, first reviewed by JA in 1999. A few years later, after a change of ownership for Wadia, Scull evaluates the transport/converter combo in a contemporary setting to see if it still holds its ground.

In his "As We See It" from August 1989, Must We Test? Yes, We Must!, John Atkinson wrestles with one of the cornerstones of the Stereophile credo: Measurements don't mean a thing if the device under test ain't also got that swing. Go ahead and test away, but JA explains that, for the complete picture, one must listen carefully as well.

Finally, the latest installment in our "Recording of the Month" series for the online archives: Recording of September 1999: George Jones: Cold Hard Truth. Robert Baird explains that, nearing the end of his career, Jones can still belt 'em out better than most.
