Several readers have been asking "What's with all of the Musical Fidelity reviews in Stereophile?" Michael Fremer fearlessly wires the Musical Fidelity Tri-Vista SACD player into his system, noting, "Overachievers tend to rankle people after a while."

Next, Brian Damkroger gets his hands on the GamuT CD 1 CD player. Why the GamuT? BD comments, "I'm picky, so it had to be something that sounded good. I wanted to be realistic, so it couldn't cost a fortune. And I wanted to try something new."

Also from the current May issue, John Atkinson reviews the Ayre CX-7 CD player. JA uses the opportunity to explore the evolution of the high-end disc spinner, explaining why "these days Stereophile is paying more attention to one-box CD players."

John Marks provides his angle on using recording technique to flatter the music and musicians in "The Fifth Element #17. " Should a recording be perfectly honest? Marks suggests that "lying in the service of grandeur, charm, and splendor is not only permissible, it is somewhat inevitable."

Finally, the newest installment in our "Recording of the Month" series for the online archives: Recording of March 1995, J. S. Bach: Secular Cantatas. Paul L. Althouse advises, "This recording is a good bet unless your higher allegiance goes to particular singers."
