It's an old post, but a good topic. The Thorens 190-2 uses a tonearm which is quite good for even the best cartridges because it has a removable headshell. This is something all turntables should have, but too many depend on using a single piece arm to save money and no other reason, so don't argue the point. It only takes a few minutes to change the cart off the TT. It should have an overhang adjustment tool, but if it doesn't, make a permanent mark on the headshell where the needle is located on the factory mounted cartridge. It will save you much grief in the future.

But I have to argue the point! The other reason for a fixed headshell is increased rigidity and elimination of additional contacts.

I've owned them for over 30 years, and they have never been misaligned or failed to contact perfectly. Why don't you make an argument that's valid.

You made an unnecessary challenging statement which, imho, demanded a response. "So don't argue the point."

I had a handful of AR XA's and XB's over the decades. The headshells did sometimes lose electrical contact. And they were rotatable to a degree. I will take a Rega tonearm anyday. Even if I buy a brand new SOTA Sapphire, it will have a Rega tonearm.
