I think the NAD C326BEE or the Cambridge 351A would be good choices for an amplifer.

The Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 is very good. The PSB Alpha 1 is too limited in its bass response for most people.

Am amazing new speaker is the Pioneer BS-22, reviewed in Stereophile this month. It is available from Amazon for around $100 per pair, and compares favorably with the 10.1. The price is kind of hard to believe...but read the review on it...lol.

The Project Basic is a good choice for a starter turntable at $299.

You will need a phono preamp, and the Cambridge 551P is a good choice at a reasonable price.

Or, if you would rather start with CD rather than vinyl, I would suggest the OPPO BDP-103, which is a very good CD/SACD/DVD/BLURAY player for $500 direct from OPPO.

Speaker choice is very personal, your ears will tell you if it sounds good. Wharfedale 10.1 and the 10.2's are terrific and sound great. If you can, listen to the Boston Acoustics A26, you may love these and the price is right. The small pioneers are very good but they are not as sensitive as some of the other speakers out there, they sound great but need a bit of power to drive them. They lack bass so you would definitely need a sub.

I auditioned a whole selection of bookshelf speakers under $500 and, couldn't be happier with the BA A26.
