Yes, folks including me have recommended them enthusiastically. Best I know of for $199. There are other good choices out there too. See Audiostream for some more reviews.
they terminate in a single 3.5 mm plug right?
They have inputs for standard RCA plugs in addition to the 3.5 mm jack.
I have used the Audioengine A2 speakers for about a year, and they are very good.
I have them connected to my PC with the included 3.5 mm stereo cable, and run a cable from the RCA jack on the back of the left speaker to a small subwoofer.
The RCA jacks and 3.5 mm jack on the rear are directly connected to each other and can be used either way for connections.
