Do you mean Blu-Ray music discs? Playable only on Blu-ray players first off. I don't know what exactly the spec is- I think 192kHz, but I could be wrong. I'm not even sure there is a broad standard.

I have couple- they are mostly transfers from DVD-A surround discs of classical. They do sound good, with a naturally recorded multi channel spread. But though my multi channel setup is respectable, it's not the serious music on;y setup I have in another room, and I have nothing to compare them too. I guess I'd need a standard CD version or something to hear.

What I know as far as Blu-ray vs DVD is that the4 sound is up to 7 channels of lossless streams, and DVD has basically high bitrate MP3 sound streams. The video portion of Blu-ray is 4-5 times the bitrate. For movies the difference is huge in sound and visuals.

"A Blu-spec CD can be played on all CD players and does not require a blue laser to be read."

I think that Stereophile needs to do some investigation and a feature article, perhaps with jitter measurements.

Could be interesting, but are a bit pricey. They would be worth the price, IF they deliver on the promise IMHO

Having produced about 13 commercial CDs, I know that good authoring is important. However, JA has tested all of our CD's from the plant and they have all measured very well in terms of errors. We didn't do anything special in the authoring or manufacturing except make sure the master disc was very low in errors. The Blu-Spec might make a difference if the normal quality of a Sony CD is actually quite poor, which would be more an indictment of the normal CD vesus a drastic improvement from Blu-Spec. Seems we need to look into this...

All of the Cantus CDs JA has recorded (plus a few I did without him), as well as a forthcoming Bob Silverman disc of Brahms and Schumann piano works.

Can't fool you!

The strange thing is, my family pronounces our last name "light" from the spelling "Lichte." If you knew all of them, you wouldn't be surprised.

Both strangers and my closest buds call me Lick-T.
