amplifier. Probably liking power in the hundreds of watts. You won't get that from a 22xx series Marantz receiver. The 2285 is only rated for 85 wpc into 8 Ohms. Perhaps look to the 23xx series? What is your budget for amplification?  Whatever is chosen should be able to handle a 4 Ohm load with aplomb.

Thanks Jackfish. I enjoy reading your posts and advice on many topics.

I have thought about purchasing the new Music Hall 15.3 for $549 when it is released (based on your recs of the a15.2). I know it will be 50wpc.

I would like to spend in the $500-600 range and I am fine with used and vintage equipment. I really appreciate your advice.

I listen mostly to jazz on vinyl and will also use a computer hooked to the receiver/amp.

The old Marantz is not a very good choice.

For that price range, I would get a Harman-Kardon 3490 stereo receiver.

Most 50 watt amplifiers do not have a low enough output impedance to drive those speakers well. I would get something with a bit more power (80 watts or more).

I have a Musical Fidelity M3i amplifier for sale that would be an excellent choice, but the price is $950.

It is like new; original cost was $1500. Actual lab tests show it puts out 90-100 watts per channel at 4 ohms, which is good for those speakers.
