Wouldn't you say proper setup is equally important regardless of the speaker?
Yes, to a degree...you have to have a room that supports good sound as well. Totem's have always been easier to place regardless.
Easier than what? It's beeen my experience that every loudspeaker responds to proper placement. The ones that are more finicky are more rewarding when properly placed.
Easier because they can be positioned with no toe in and because they are holographic even when placed close to room boundries. Do they sound better with more room and care of placement? Yes, but it's not always possible for the average Joe to tell his wife He's taking over the living room:)
I would disagree that proper speaker placement is equally important regardless of the speaker . Although proper setup is a given , some speakers respond much better when dialed in . My current Salons sound very nice no matter where there placed , within reason , even when your sitting to the extreme left or right , the sound stage is lost but excellent impact , detail and nuance remains . To put some prosective on this , the speakers in my third system at the lake , Red Rose Music R3's show big changes when the toe or rake is changed by even a half inch . Many of my preconceived ideals get tossed out the window when I go from one system to the next.
As far as the average Joe taking over the living room , If it's done tastefully and with a great deal of forethought there's not usually much static .
My main system is quite large but having all the gear on one stand , including amps ( 9 components ) and not having any cables or cords visible other than the right speaker cable , keeps things sane and everybody in the family happy . Keep in mind it's taken nearly fourty years of tinkering to get to this level .
Yes of course...didn't want to get into the topic that deep here. Been there and done that many times over! Just sayin'...the Totem speakers can be enjoyed without a lot of histrionics as compared to something like the Dyn C-4's or Wilson 7's I owned...very tweaky and room dependant:)
Decided to upgrade to the new Totem Forest Signature loudspeakers... Hi Fi House in DE, worked out a deal I couldn't refuse:) Didn't know about these when I ordered the standard versions last month. They have a reworked crossover with Mundorf Caps and Element series wiring, a new decoupling system from the Element series as well, a double metal tubed port system from the Element, a re-worked tweeter housing (channel), matched veneer on all sides with an 8 coat poly finish and new voicing to account for the changes and tilt option of the decoupling system! I also happen to have the same cables they used to demo the Signatures at RMAF...Transparent:) It will take roughly 5 weeks till they roll them out and get me a pair, but it will be so worth the wait!!!!!!!!
