loudspeakers. A friend has two in his all Pinnacle home theater and they seemed adequate to me. I was only watching movies and not listening to music, but bass from the sound tracks sounded deep and articulate. Set the sub's crossover at 55 Hz and enjoy.
You have very very good speakers and a very high-quality amplifier there.
IMO that Pinnacle subwoofer is mediocre at best and you would NOT be happy with it; it is really not even comparable to the Polk PSW505, which sells for around $200. It is no bargain at $300 (and that 600 watts is PEAK power, which is bullshit; the RMS power is maybe a third of that).
I use the NHT B12D subwoofer, which costs $700, and think it is superb! It has 450 watts of RMS power (over 1000 watts peak).
I am using it with Gallo Acoustics CL-3 speakers and an Audio Research preamp and a Bryston power amplifier, and the sound is to die for.
The NHT sub is a sealed acoustic-suspension design, which eliminates a lot of the resonances and uneven response founf in cheaper subs. It is also quite compact for a 12-inch sub; only 14 inches on each side.
Cheaping out on a subwoofer is a big mistake. Go with a high-quality unit from NHT or Rythmic.
Quite the assessment from someone who hasn't even heard the Pinnacle Baby Boomer. I've heard it and the Polk PSW505, and I also own a Rythmik F12. The Baby Boomer is not mediocre; it is an impressive performer for its size. At $1000 is it overpriced? Yes, I believe so. Is it worth considering at $300? Yes.
The frequency response and output are about the same from both the Baby Boomer and PSW505. Where the Pinnacle might have the edge is in the quality of its bass. It is a sealed design, which eliminates much of the unwanted resonances and uneven response found in cheaper subs like the PSW505. In addition, the dual drivers in opposition further reduces internal resonances and vibration. In the assessment of one who has heard both, and is a Rythmik F12 owner who knows what a good subwoofer should sound like, the Pinnacle is a decent subwoofer well worth considering for the $300 price the OP can acquire one for.
