This really isn't a receiver oriented site.

I have very little experience with any kind of receiver. I've never owned one. The closest I've ever come was the first piece of gear I ever bought. That was a Fisher KX-90 integrated amplifier kit. I bought it in 1967. The next gear I bought was some Dynaco separates in 1970. It's been separates ever since.

The mere mention of Bose tends to make people shy away. Most posters here don't think too much of Bose products. The few that do are sometimes quite militant about their favorites.

Thanks Joe! This is exactly the kind of advice I was hoping to hear. I only looked atthat company that shall not be named because their outdoor speaker series seems very robust. Any other recommendations for outdoor speakers, or indoor for that matter? Thanks again for your advice, it is very much appreciated.

The best advice I can give about choosing speakers is to find somewhere to audition some. Depending on your location it can sometimes be difficult do that auditioning. Regardless, auditioning will give you an idea what you're looking for and help narrow down the field of candidates. Buying speakers on a recommendation is like letting someone else choose your mail order bride. It's the fastest easiest way to end up with something you don't like.

Being located in CA means you have plenty of options B&M store wise.

Makes outstanding exterior speakers.  And you can practically drive them with a walkman.

I know I just said walkman, I'm an 80's child.
