the amps through them? Better yet will a dealer let you take an amp home so you can listen to the amp through your speakers in your room?
I suggest that you look at the Music Hall A15.2.
I think it is the best-sounding amplifier for less than $1000, and it even has a built-in phono preamp. The Arcam A18 is also very good, but a lot more money and a bit less power.
Music Direct has it for only $499, which I think is a steal.
But the Rega is a decidedly better amp than the Music Hall. It just sounds more natural and fluid while also having nice drive and momentum. But for that money neither are as good as a used Arcam A85 or old Krell 300i or even the entry level Vincent integrated. I know commsysmans personality after having been on here a long time and I love the enthusiasm when he get's behind a product. But there are better horses to hitch your wagon to than the Music Hall. Not the least of which when Roy Hall went from being a distributor of British and European and American gear you knew exactly where the product was coming from and he supported it well. Now he put's his name on whatever Shenzen will make him for a few hundred bucks. Maybe it's good, maybe it's not, what are you going to do if Roy gives you the big shoulder shrug if it doesn't work out. Not saying it will, and all the word is Hall is exceedingly ethical, but if I'm buying from Hall, I'm sticking with Creek. I don't want any question about the product itself.
