I have decided that any succesful audio upgrade throws you back into the music. You listen more for longer periods of time. You may even miss a little sleep. Given those criteria, the Emotiva's are a great success and upgrade for me! I still marvel at the tweeters and the information I was missing from my music. Do you know that the Twin Peaks Soundtrack has the most amazing, liquid cymbal work? I didn't till I listened with these speakers. They have also really pushed me toward upgrading my center channel for movies and surround music as I listen for and maybe even long for that extension from a speaker that does not have it to give. (Good thing I am talking about a speaker and not my wife!!!!!!!!)

The bass has continued to lose the hump I heard, it only occasionaly shows up now and is still receeding.

I think I will get the center channel soon (my speakers went on sale a week after I bought them and so I have a store credit) and then wait for the pre/pro they have, but that is a pricier proposition.

Things continue to impress with the Emotiva XRM 6.1s! The treble has lost none of its sparkle but is never (well hardly ever) intrusive while the bass has smoothed. These speakers are less forgiving of bad recordings, even my non-audiophile wife hears it. "This cd is just not that well recorded, is it?" she occasionally asks. I have had fun lately playing with placement, especially toe in. My eldest daughter (17) was moving the speakers for me and asked for a turn. So I dutifully pointed them straight ahead or more at her while she compared. We decided that we liked them pointed right at us while listening to Blackbird and knew whe had it set. Then we listened to Energy by the Apples in Stereo and things were not right. The sound was too busy, there was more going on then we could keep track of, and it was feeling like a bit of a chore to listen. The Apples tend to use insanely dense pop mixes, and the complete toe in did NOT work. As a lark, we moved the speakers back to firing straight ahead and things were great! The mix grew more diffuse and less bumper to bumper. That weird sound on the background vocals could now be heard as a vocoder! So we have been moving the toe in based on the music we are listening to. Small combo, point them at the listener, more complicated source material, spread em out! One last kudo for Emotiva, the speakers went on sale (BIG sale) after I purchased them and they emailed me about their price protection plan. I now have $150 credit toward the XRC 6.2 which I will use (at least initially) for my center channel.
