Really seems about the same but the auction page is better. Change is good.
Seems very bland. Has that faded look. Search is hosed, brings items that are not related to what your searching for.....
Prompted by Quadlover's post, I sat down this morning and wrote a very explicit and lengthy comment detailing the good, bad and ugly of the "New & Improved" AudiogoN site. Participating in forums and blogs is something I do not normally do so suffice it to say my letter writing this morning did not come easy. After what seemed to be an hour I was about to hit send and somehow I lost my work into cyberspace when I moved to another window.....argh!!! My nerves were frazzled so I decided to try and put my thoughts together again later in the evening. Well, here I am writing again but this time it is not to duplicate what I had lost earlier. I have a much easier way to explain my thoughts concerning the "New & Improved" AudiogoN site. It is simply tiring to look at........visually tiring. I find it a chore to look at. I attempted several times this afternoon to navigate the site and I find the new colors, new fonts, distracting ads all contributing to visual and mental strain. I used to search and read the original site for an hour and sometimes more but this afternoon I could not last more than 10 minutes per try. It is sterile and cold, cold, cold. Yep, the new site has improved search options, better my page options, etc. which all AudiogoN members are happy with. But the old site was much more visually appealing. All we wanted were these new features to be implemented into the original site-sort of a face lift. But what we got was a complete reconstruction. Why the new colors? It may be a favorite color of the web designer but it does not do anything good for long term navigating. The major colors of the original AudiogoN site were shades of yellow with black used for the font color. An easy to read combination. Fact: Yellow is an attention getter, it is considered optimistic and enhances concentration, hence the yellow color used in legal note pads. Fact: Blue on the other hand is peaceful and tranquil, it causes the body to produce calming chemicals. Blue can be cold and depressing......something you definitely do not want for an auction/sale site where you review lots of text information. And the "New & Improved" site uses blue on blue for color!! Whether you agree with me on the color physiology angle or not, I will put money on the fact that long term members of AudiogoN who remember the old site will say that the "New & Improved" look of the site is tiring and challenges your ability to stay interested in reading the ads. This is a lose/lose situation for everyone.
and challenges my ability to stay interested is a rambling wall of text, wiremanagement.
For those who didn't notice it says BETA on top of the new Agon pages.
FWIW, I thought the old site sucked. The new one is a huge improvement. There are certainly some bugs to be worked out, but that's always the case with a new format.
There's something about IT people that enables them to penetrate the brains of decision makers that will forever baffle me. There's one thing I've learned since becoming aware of the usefulness of the internet in marketing and sales and that is that the original site development is always the best it will ever be. It must have something to do with the art of simplicity and form following function. And then the IT department needs to justify their existence by making things "better."
Oh, and then there are sites like Drudge that hasn't changed since the very beginning and continues to set records for visitors...over-taking almost all the traditional media outlets. All the while maintaining the most simple web design possible. Kudos to Matt Drudge and the Drudge Report.
Wrong sir. Lots of original web design sucks. I was never that impressed with AG's site. It's now modern and I think easier to use. You guys seem to be looking for something to write about.
Change isn't always good. But it rarely happens without reason. And the reason is that the old AG was not simple. It was busy and anacronistic. Circa 1997. Time to improve and move on.
Sissy-Aid is the replacement moniker I use for my IT department's program named Sysaid. If I have a computer problem, I must send in a request via Sysaid to the IT department. (Duh!.....what if my e-mail does not work?) No longer is help just a phone call away. It has to be documented so the IT department can “justify their existence” (thank you Catch22). I am getting a little off track here but Catch22 hit on a very important point. It seems as though we have a case of the tail wagging the dog or the web designer telling AudiogoN what they need. IT people, or web designers in this case, should resource the tools we need to do our jobs, not tell us what tools to use. AudiogoN’s most important asset is in the quality of its members and the community atmosphere they stimulate and promote within the site. Let’s all be patient and hope that the powers to be over @ AudiogoN listen to its member’s suggestions as to what improvements would be helpful to implement within the beta version.
I came out of such environment. "Sysaid" has nothing to do with justifying anyones existence. It has to do with documenting and keywording problems, solutions, and who is most proficient at solving them. So when you document a problem the IT manager is more likely to hand off the problem to the person most likely to solve it. And it makes sure that the best people move forward in the company based on their track record of solving problems.
There really are very few accidents. Promise.
I like AG's new layout and find it easy to navigate.
I don't understand the complaints. Except for not being able to look up where a zip code is everything seems easier to use.
Here are the pros & cons of the site in my eyes:
Pros
Much easier to sort auctions or classifieds by price, date ending, etc.
Cons
Where is SACD catagory for music?
Why when I enter a particular mfr (i.e Bryston) do a number of non related classifieds show up?
Where is the daily discussion post that always was found on the last section of daily classifieds?
What happened to the feedback scoring? Everyone's score seems to have changed.
Why am I seeing car ads and other meaningless non-audio related ads on the side of the pages? If Audiogon is going to sell its space to advertisers, they should reconsider the cost of buying and selling on Audiogon.
Background coloring leaves much to be desired!
I posted this original question on this site for 2 reasons.
1. I think stereophile and audiogon have/had the best forum section. (They both blow TAS's forums out of the water)
2. When I voiced my questions and concerns as a long time buyer/seller on Audiogon to the Audiogon site, I got the standard "we'll look into the matter and get back to you" Yeah right.
Audiogon has changed the entire face of audio since its inception. As such it should strive to keep active buyers and sellers happy and still offer a site that is user friendly for 1sttime or occasional users.

Cast my vote for disgust with the new Audiogon site. It looks like a bunch of middle school kids threw it together, its dfifficult to use, searches pull up more than I ask for, it is slow, etc.
Too bad, the forums are good and the inventory is outstanding although I suspect if Audiogon doesnt get its act together soon the inventory wont be so hot.
I would love to know what the IT staff at Audiogon is paid, whatever it is it is too much. What a bunch of morons to release a beta system into production.
Hey audiogon - There are a lot of good IT people looking for work, and they are not from India, they live here in the USA.
I agree with all negative comments above.
New site looks COLD and SLOW. Old Audiogon site was extreamly fast (I think faster than ebay), not any more. Cold color and slow speed makes me more tired.
The new search engine is improved, but Audiogon does not have tons of listings like ebay and I don't really see any need for it.
99% of my searching has been "new 2 days" and category searching.
Somethimes new is not better just like audio equipments, where I miss old equipment I sold already.
Hello everyone. As a long time user (11 years) of Audiogon, I have become very disheartened with AudiogoN after their launch of the “New Look”. Immediately following the launch, I wrote the bosses over @ AudiogoN to tell them that the new format had problems and encouraged them to return to the original site configuration. I received an e-mail back from AudiogoN informing me that they are aware the new site has some problems and thanked me for my continued patience while they worked on solving them. They also included a link to a blog (appears to be managed by WordPress) where I could monitor their progress and receive information. I subscribed to the AudiogoN blog on 01-06-12 and within a day, copies of AudiogoN member comments from the blog started to trickle into my inbox. I logged onto AudiogoN’s site and searched for these same comments and could not find them. The original AudiogoN site listed “Today’s Forum Topics” at the end of “Today’s New Listings” and right before the wanted ads as many of you may recall. AudiogoN’s new look is not like this but still, after searching the site, I could not find these particular comments. Then one day I had 86 (!) copies of blog comments in my mailbox. Again, I searched the Audiogon site for these comments but found nothing in their forums. The last blog comment I received was on 01-12-12. It has now been two days with no comments posted. This fact I find odd considering the volatility and controversial subject matter. I wonder if this blog is no longer actively sending out copies of comments or even accepting and archiving any new comments. Please.....if I am incorrect and these comments are indeed available for viewing on the AudiogoN site, please state where we can all find these. In the interim, I believe the AudiogoN blog comments I have received thru WordPress should be posted on this site for all to read since I do not find them being posted on AudiogoN's site. I have approximately 120 copies of comments to post and I will post everyone no matter what the comment and in the order I received them.

Where are the advanced search functions? In particular, I can't seem to find the new way to search listings by zip code. I also preferred the old method of listing ads in order by product type after a search was made. With the new way it is much harder to make sense of what everything is, since there is no product class listed for the items. The ads themselves are now harder to read through quickly; they feel cluttered and have too much non-essential information up top. Audiogon was far more user friendly for buyers in it's old version.

Hello, I'm not sure if you intend to change the website format permanently or not, but I strongly suggest that you do not. Part of what makes Audiogon so appealing is its simplicity, that it is NOT like Ebay. Additionally, the old site runs easily and quickly on any machine I access it with, whereas the new one seems very memory intensive and cumbersome. I don't care how many days a classified has left! Better to know how long something has been listed. I understand that old dogs...etc. but newer is not always better as so many of us plainly understand. Craigslist is a great example: hasn't changed at all and is wildly popular. > > Please.> >

WOW! I think you screwed the pooch on this one. Music, auctions and classifieds all mixed together. Please separate them. It feels like I digging through the laundry basket to find my missing black sock. In addition, now there are multiple pages of listings. I just prefer to scroll down and and scan on one page. Also, the bright white background is just too bright Tone it down because it’s bleaching out the text.. When you click on a link, the color change is too close to see without straining your eyes; a headache waiting to happen. Highlighted items do not have enough contrast. What do the stars in front of listings mean? After flipping through three pages I just gave up. I usually visit the site two or three times and day, click on the first item in the classified section, page back and then scroll down and scan the listings until I find the marked link from my last visit. I can’t do this anymore. So, know I’m forced to write down the first listing and then scan for the through pages until I find the listing that I wrote down before. In addition, I now have to filter out music and auction listings. About the only parts I like is the pictures now pop over the listing instead of opening in a new tab and the sellers other items are listed down the right side.

Not bad I can live with it (and it's OK on my Droid too), but I wish the music for sale wasn't mixed in with the gear for sale in the "New Today" selection. I like how it was divided before, but what would be really advantageous is a "sort my kind" header field in the "New Today" page. That's easy to implement. Thanks!

The upgrade/update is great. However, there does not seem to be a way to check a full listing of a specific sellers other items. This is not helpful when searching for something from a seller who has multiple items for sale. Thank you.

Oh yeah, just a couple of additional problems/issues: 1. Can't browse by manufacturer. 2. Can't see a seller's feedback (only the score). You used to be able to read what had been written about them in their feedback, now you can't even do that.

I read all the comments and mostly agree. The search is unusable now, the old way to list the items by date was much better... also we can't see the number of views for an ad anymore. Also not seeing the categories on a search result is a problem... It would have been easy to do a advanced search with location, not only zipcode because you don't only have US users, or search by voltage (230v etc), please think about foreign users. I think the older site was just missing a few functions, but it was fine, the new site looks like a beta... Please put the old site back ! we are customers, not beta testers.

I wish that the site had been more prepared to accomodate the members before it was launched. Those of us wishing to see auctions on which we are bidding has been lost and as a result, it is unknown if we are free (financially) to bid on another item. That being said, no one is able to sign on to do anything; check My Page, make offers, ask questions about an item etc. I am not sure how this website is going to make things easier for the user. I liked the old site in that when opening an ad all the information was right in front of me in an encapsulated "window"; seller's feedback, photos, ability to ask a question and so on. As a long time user of Audiogon (over 10 years) I see this new website as change for change's sake. While I agree the zipcode feature will be nice if it is indeed going to be added, there was really no need to revamp the whole site. Overall, I am not impressed with the changes, frustrated I cannot carry on with business because the site was launched too early, I would be made if I were selling an item and there is an interruption with my ad and so on. If I were to give this project a grade, I would give it a "F".

I hate to say this but this isn't a good customer experience. I'm sure you know people on the audio forums are complaining about it. Is Rollback an option? It used to be so easy and quick to use your site. I hope you can get the search fixed, since it's not sorting the output like it used to.

WHO designed this!! This is the worst piece or code/system I have seen in my 25+ yesrs in the IT industry!! By NO means should something this poorly designed "enhacement" been inplimented let alone seen teh light of day. I've got transactions that are nearly complete and they are showing up as active!! Count 'em folksthere are 6 bullet items above, any one of which should have kept this out of production. Here are some more clues that meesneeds to be scrapped. Not being able to browse the merchandise by manufacturer. This is ridiculous. Having to sort the category and then scrolling down to find what i want is a time killer. Oh by the way yu only get one page. The lack of contrast on the display is detrimental. Trust me black print on a yellow field is the easiest to read and causes the least eye strain. Why do people who write a lot use yellow note pads? Wait until you have problems with the gray on white. People inenvablely miss some or all of this information and therre is always hell to pay. Auction data has been lost. The additional ad space I can understand, as this can be sold. BUT I don't want to see a list of "singles" or "by the hour friends" while I'm trying to find some new gear. I'm just getting back into the audiophile world and have met some of the best people that I have EVER met here. Now one has got to be suspicious on a dubious site. And not being able to log on tells me that the work is NOT complete!! Congratulations who ever approved this revamping of the site has bought the Empowers New Clothes. Eat the consultants fees, get someone in to add some ad space to the page and restore what WAS one of the best sites on the web. Sone is trying to punch up their resume, that's nice, because they need to GO!!!

Immediately remove all my closed ads from your listings and also the one current open ad for a 20' pair of MIT MI-350 Proline Reference cables from your site. I will consider re-listing when your site is actually operating correctly.

seems like negative feedback on the new look is being disallowed...good way to run off long-time users....

> The changes you instituted to gain add revenue have made the site much less > user freindly. If I search for "audio research" for example, things used to > be grouped by type. Not now. All mixed together. Bad! Another example. > Search for "soundlab" brings up something other than the speakers. I don't > know where the speakers are to be found??!! In general, the graphics are > worse and things are much harder to find. You need to do some work and fix > this! Like many who think they are improving their site with the latest IT > upgrades, things are actually worse and its really a step backwards. Too > bad. The site used to be quite good. Now its just irritating. You can do > better. A LOT BETTER!!!!

You guys should change it back now before you dig yourself deeper into a hole. It is a downgrade and annoying to try to use especially being as I see ZERO advantages for the users who btw are the ones who support your site. I will not use your site when Ebay can do just as good of a job but for other reasons I don't care for Ebay. Say good bye to your customers.

Please bring back the functionality of the old site. And fire the incompetent idiots who ruined it. It would take hours to type a list of all that is wrong with the new "coke". Even if the site worked, you took out too many of the features (especially search functions) to make the site even remotely functional. And no-one cares how many days are left. Please go back to showing the new listings with the dates in the order they were listed for easier navigation. (and to see what the new listings are in the specific area you are trying) Just bring back the old site. Or you will lose a lot of customers. Myself included. Add me to the list of really unhappy campers. Keith aka Schnoopies
