We have been having on ongoing problem the past few weeks. It looks as if the volume of spam postings temporarily overwhelms the spam filter and it allows through some spam postings until it recovers. Ariel and I then have to manually delete the spam that gets through, which we do every few hours.
Web monkey Jon Iverson and our coding consultant Len Porcaro have been working on the problem and Len implemented what he hopes is a fix this morning. I hope it works.

I've been noticing a lot of spam on this site.
We implemented some inprovements to our spam filter since my last posting. However, there still seems to be some leaking through, especially in the wee hours, which Ariel and I have to delete manually every morning. We might have to reinstate the "captcha" screening in the posting process, though this would undoubtedly be unpopular.

We have started the New Year with a new spam filter on our site, called Mollom. So far this appears to be doing a much better job at preventing the onslaught of spam than had our previous filter.

Thanks. Now that the Mollom engine is working (and as it runs, it gets better at blocking suspicious postings), I encourage everyone to let us know when they find old spam that we haven't yet deleted.
