That is basically correct, One side of the cartridge senses modulation 45 degrees from vertical, and the

other side senses modulation 45 degrees from vertical on the other side.

The information on the disc is de-emphasized in the lower frequencies when the master is recorded, so

as not to use up excessive space on the record surface with large physical excursions of the grooves.

This requires that the phono preamp use an equalization filter to boost the low frequencies back up to

their correct level relative to the higher frequencies.

if i perceived the balance on my record player to be off then it's prolly just the anti-skate adjustment being off, true? cause i just readjusted the anti-skate and the balance came back.
