I have decided that CDs are dead and that the sound quality of compressed music is poor. While I wait out the inevitable format war that will eventually provide us with a suitable successor, I am collecting music I enjoy on a format with proven durability.

I have been buying a lot of the 150 to 220 gram re-releases that are coming out. I am sure you don't want a list but I have spend about $500 in the past year. I have spent about half that on used vinyl, which calculates to a lot more records. In perspective I have spent about $150 on CDs.

A better question might be "what didn't I buy?"

I hate vinyl. I don't like sitting on it and I don't like listening to it. And I am tired of reading about it.

Buying at least two LPs a week.

B-52'sFunplex (the couch was danced on)! The sound track to My Cousin Vinnie. What a find. The Chicago Crystal & Stone Co.'s Walking with the Worms. Too weird even for me.

Last year, living in Japan, I spent quite a few hundred dollars! Got a new TT too: VPI Scout, with a Dynavector cartridge bought from the workshop in Tokyo.

I'm 34 years old and I've bought probably about 100 LPs new and used in the last year. I particularly like jazz on LP like Saxophone Colossus. Just picked up Coldplay's Viva La Vida on LP. Anything by Harry James from Sheffield Labs is a blast!

CCR: Willie and the Poor Boys. Led Zeppelin II, Led Zeppelin IV, Beatles: Love. Metallica: Master of Puppets. ZZ Top: Tres Hombres. Van Halen: Van Halen (on order).

Just starting to go out and round up used LPs again.

I have always liked vinyl and recently bought a Clearaudio turntable.

Listen to my old stuff, but wouldn't by any new.

I bought Billie Holiday greatest hits and David Bowie.

The Blue Note reissues on 45 rpm, and lots of other reissues. Boy, do they sound great!

Lost track of how much I spent on vinyl; you'll have to ask my wife. I buy music I enjoy on my car's satellite radio in rock, jazz, and classical genres.

Classical music. Opera on eBay and in shops.

Mostly The Beatles and some '70s bands (i.e. Talking Heads, Supertramp, etc).

The only music I buy these days is actually only on vinyl. My 600 CDs and Levinson player are dormant.

New releases, reissues, used and replacement records.

You ought to be if you aren't. There are so many killer releases coming out its hard to keep up with them all. Led Zeppelin's remastered Mothership is due out soon. Also, Universal just released a slew of new/old records from the likes of Supertramp, Steely Dan, The Police, U2, and Frampton. This is the best its been for TT owners since the CD was invented.

I've spent a lot on both LPs and upgrades to my vinyl rig, including tonarm cable, platter and clamp upgrade, isolation platform, an RCM, and other tweaks.

I am a classic country music lover, so I bought of lot of country music albums.

I think new vinyl is too costly at $30 per album. I am going to stick to used records, where I am able to find interesting and good records which I have never heard before. It will keep me satisfied.

Where would I start?

Used LPs are available for cheap. I frequently find myself coming home with a dozen or two of used LPs at a time. I spend more on CDs, but I am buying more LPs. It seems like most of the new LPs are released on 180 gm vinyl and the sound is great. They even come with digital downloads to make loading into my iPod a snap.

I buy mostly used LPs. Usually all under $5.

There simply isn't the selection available locally that I enjoyed a couple of decades ago. I found it a joy to go through thousands of LPs at any number of retail outlets in the DC area where I lived. Most of the recent releases I'm interested in are available on CD only. I do prefer vinyl over CDs and if given a choice I would purchase vinyl without a doubt.

I am keeping the vinyl spending under reasonable control—so far!
