Would you attend an audio club get-together if there were one nearby? Why or why not?

Audio clubs have been doing well the last few years, with new ones appearing every so often. Would you attend an audio club get-together if there were one nearby? Why or why not?

I was a member of a group but the commute was to much. It has amazed me that in an area as populated as Long Island New York there isnot a group.

My community is so typical of America today that when you mention "audio" they think of car stereo and car stereo stores. Sad, sad, sad.

Member, The Boston Audio Society - we play CDs, amplify with transistors, and connect with zip cord !

I began hosting an informal local group of "audio enthusiasts" this past year from my local area. It has been lots of fun and very interesting when we compare each others components.

It would be good to establish reference levels of my own system relative to others' in a real life setting, not just a dealer's listening room. Also, the opportunity to share ideas on equipment, acoustics, etc.

We had a Canberra Audio Society, but the meetings stopped. Why? Well maybe, it was ONE weirdo who talked to himself all the time. And then there was ME! I remember walking out of the first CD demo at someone's home. It was just AWFUL!!!! Most others were going wow and etc. Hard, edgy, and UNPLEASANT. IIRC the speakers were the biggest Nakamichi monitors, or Yammie NS1000M's in a deep red-brown veneer. Revealing? Ooooh yes! Wrong amp, or was it just the DGG (mike festoon!??) CD of a Grand Piano or CDP, it was the big chunky Sony!? But it WAS awful! Quiet? yep, but just AWFUL.
