An LP perfomed by Ishmael United, a collection of British high-school teachers who said, upon listening to some then-new punk rock, "We can do better than that, let's have a go at it." The LP cover shows a football—excuse me, soccer game—in progress, with the referee red-carding a player while yelling the album title: "If You Can't Shout Saved, You Have to Face the Penalty."

Without question, the strangest CD in my collection remains Art Zoyd's "Nosferatu" (Atonal ACD 3008). This is really scary stuff!!! Dark and sinister, it could easily pass as a soundtrack to a journey through Hell. It has, on more than one occasion, raised the hair on the back of my neck. Warning: DON'T LISTEN TO THIS IN THE DARK!!!

University of Texas LP making fun of Texas A&M. Called "The Aggies LP," it is cut backwards; you put the needle at the center of the groove and it runs to the outside edge of the vinyl! I gave it to a relative who attended A&M (because I care and feel his pain!).

One of the strangest songs I've ever heard is from the Sun Ra "Singles" collection: "Message to Earthman" by Yochanan, the space age vocalist, and Sun Ra & His Arkestra. Strange in a nice way, if you know what I mean; of course, anything by Shania Twain (or Shiny-New-Train, as we call her) is REALLY strange, but I don't own any of her recordings.

Deep Listening by Pauline Oliveiros, Stuart Dempster, and Panagiotis on New Albion. Improvisations recorded in a large, empty cement water cistern with a 40-second reverb time—the chamber is as much an instrument as what the performers are playing. There's an incredible background wash of phase-shifting echo, and each time I upgrade equipment or improve my setup, the sound alters. I've had the disc for years and I'm still not sure I know what it sounds like.

Joe Byrd and the Field Hippies:"The American Metaphysical Circus" Columbia MS7317. This album (LP) has some strange items and spans the audio range from ethereal to narrowband. Best tunes: "You Can't Ever Come Down", "Moonsong:Pelog", and "Patriot's Lullabye." Notice that this is on a Masterworks Label. If you want wide dynamic range and sparkling highs this album has it in spots. Find it if you can.
