Real Men Hold Pompoms!!

Last week, my wonderful coworkers completely surprised me with a delicious birthday cake.

"Angela's calling everyone into her office for a quick meeting," Rosemarie told me.

"Are we fired?" I asked.

"Yeah," she laughed.

Inside, everyone was gathered around a small table, smiles on their faces, the birthday cake lighting the room with its flickering candles. "Happy Birthday!"

I couldn't believe it, really.

"Make a wish!"

"I wish Elizabeth would come back."

Afterwards, Rosemarie returned to my office and said, "You really deserve more. We've got another surprise coming for you. It should be here next week."

"What is it?"

"I'm not telling."

It arrived yesterday: an 18" x 24" poster of the 2007 Denver Broncos Cheerleaders, signed and dedicated, To Stephen: Real men hold pompoms!!

For some reason it seems as if getting older is easier for most men than it is for us women. If you really want to feel old, I'd suggest getting yourself a mortgage and a two year old!

Happy belated birthday, Stephen! Thirty, huh? Ouch. I'm not looking forward to that one, thankfully I've still got more than a year to prepare myself...;-)

Thanks so much, Jaclyn. Turning 30 is a piece of cake. For a long time, I looked forward to it, thinking that I'd magically become an adult. But, nope -- I still feel like a kid.
