been playing with it today. very nice.

I am told that this was written by the same guy who did the excellent Max audio file translation program. I got a copy at RMAF but haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

it is very nice... until now the only "high end" option was amarra. overpriced and bloated.

BTW, JA..you guys really oughta do a review of the CMP2 system. I have a dedicated PC running this and it is superb.

Being older 'Foobar' to me is too close to the old military phrase FUBAR..."F'ed up beyond all repair"

This is posted as a courtesy. Use extream caution in accessing the site http://www.cics memoryplayer.com/ (link edited by admin Ariel Bitran so that it doesn't work when you click on it--stay safe people) as it seems to be contaminated by 4 viruses. My ISP Comcast includes the Norton Security package as part of its service and Norton instantly went into lockout mode. The following list was detected by Norton. If anyone has the contact information for these folks, contact them and ask them to scrub their site.

Ariel Bitran disarmed my link, but left the infected link in Teddy Rays post live and infected. I just used the Teddy Ray link and bingo. This is not a reflection on Teddy Rey only a statement that the Norton Security Suite immediately locks the CMP2 site out and gives the warning that I posted earlier. Somehow the public access CMP2 page seems to have become infected. The whole hosting site may be infected, and that could be thousands of web sites in some cases.

When a user posts a warning Stereophile should look at all the other posts that may contain the same link. My bad for re-posting a live bad link. I know better than that, it was a long day and late night. That's no excuse, but that's how it occurred. Stereophile is negligent for leaving the original post live and dangerous.

Ah, the wonders of Microsoft's virus vulnerability. My 'metrosexual little Mac boxes', connecting to the web via a Sun 'Solaris' box, have no problems with that site.

Teddy Ray, As someone who has to worry about computer security in my day job, I'll take that as a compliment. "Horse Wank" I know that worse names have been cast my way.

I made no disparaging remarks about you, just that alarms went off when the link was pressed. If you are that insecure, I pity you.

Not trusting or or using anti-virus software is a lot like unprotected sex. It may be enjoyable on the short term, but in the long run you will live to regret it and the price may be your life.

The animated monkey with a fork and the light socket comes to mine. The sparks will get you every time. "False Positive" Really, if you only resort to audiophile terms, you really are leading a dull life.

Peace and Happiness........

Cog is another good free foobar alternative for OS X. You may also check some other free ones like Play rom Sbooth, Songbird, Vox. Of course there are great commercial ones. But for me, iTunes is still my favor to manage my music files.

This article gives a complete introduction of several free and commercial foobar alternatives for Mac:

All:

As macs have been running on Unix for years; and a previous poster mentioned something about macs going through a Sun box to solidify my statement, we (mac/UNIX) community pretty much never have to worry about viruses and malware and the like. Sadly, that is the norm in the windows world.

Just stating fact. not opinion. As to the software, I use Audirvana on my mac and love it.

Respectfully,

Ron
