Doesn't seem to know a thing about Wicca from what she says. One has to wonder about the veracity of her comment, given that.

I mean, Wicca doesn't even have the concept of a "satan". Geeze...

Where is the border line between superstition and religion?
Wherever it is, when irrational belief systems of any kind and politics gets mixed together run for cover.

Well, we still have Harry Reid out here locked in a dead heat with a crazy woman.

The real condemnation of the Tea Party in Nevada is that they picked a candidate that is so bad, Harry has a chance. A legit candidate would have Harry down by 25 points.

Harry was dead meat until the reds nominated Angle.

Yet....

Harry keeps trying to commit suicide!

"No vote on the tax cuts until after the election."

That's like saying, "Please, do NOT vote for me."

Harry says it's so 'politics' won't play a role in the vote.

That is so cynical I'm 49.999% tempted to change my vote and go with the crazy chick.

If Harry really postpones his vote, he will lose mine.

The polls here show a dead heat, so....

So, statistically speaking, Harry Reid = Crazy Woman.

It's official: The Democrats have indeed postponed the tax cut vote until after the November elections.

By postponing the vote on the tax cuts the Democrats have just assured the Republicans of a major victory in November since just about the entire Democratic base is completely pissed off and turned off. I'm guessing that November's elections will see one of the lowest Democratic turnouts in many years. I know that I'm not voting.

Before you jump on me please bear in mind that where I live in northwest Bergen County, NJ, Scott Garrett, the incumbent Republican Congressman, will win with about 70% to 80% of the vote - my vote truly means nothing. And the Tea Party scream about being ignored.

Hi, Jazzfan!

Your post about your vote not counting reminded me of a friend.

He is a very right wing guy who lives in California and keeps telling me how he's going to leave California....where his vote doesn't count...and move someplace like Utah, where it will.

I tell him if he does that, his vote still won't count. It will just disappear into the majority every time rather than the minority.

In theory, if he's that interested in his vote counting, he should move to Franken country, or Ohio, or some swing state rather than a typically blue or red place.

Buddha,

I understand what you're trying to say and normally I would say that your point is well taken. However in both my case and your friend's case when one is in the very small minority one's vote truly does not count. And not doesn't it count but, in spite of the Tea Party's bemoaning how they were being ignored, the Republicans really know how to ignore voters who don't agree with them, for example in the run up to Iraq II not only were those disagreed ignored but they were labeled unAmerican and worse by those in favor of the war.

My liberal friends all seem to think that the November elections are just a storm that is going to pass but I'm not so easily reassured. As I've stated before, with all the trumped up scandals and charges which will be brought by the Republican controlled Congress against the Obama White House I seriously doubt that Obama will win reelection, provided he can even attempt to seek the Democratic nomination.

Add to this my latest epiphany regarding the current crisis facing many states with respect to their state employee pension plans. What is stop the Republicans from passing a one time exemption to the states allowing them to void the present union contracts requiring state run pensions and convert these pensions into individually run and held 401Ks. And of course the workers would only get pennies on the dollar for the value of their pensions.

Now before everyone jumps all over me please consider a few factors:

1) There has been a long running attack by the Republicans on all types of public employees, from teachers to municipal workers, which has included things like these worker's guaranteed raises and pensions. So the time is ripe to bring down the hammer and complete destroy what few unions remain.

2) Any legal challenges will be taken by the Republicans all the way to the very conservative Roberts led Supreme Court, which will never, ever, as in not a million years, rule in favor of workers over management.

Case closed.

There is nothing in our union contract that require we have a "state run" pension. We had a state pension plan long before the union came along. Thanks to the union, employees now have to contribute to the union, and an additional 1% into our pension plan. Thanks to the union, we now have shit high deductible health insurance. In fact, our overall departmental policies are better than our union contract. Thankfully, when a departmental policy favors the employee better than the union contract the departmental policy prevails. But back to the state pension plan. Our pension plan is protected through legislation. No politician is allowed to even look at it. Nevertheless, our pension plan took a hit just like anybody else. We went back to our 2004 level and climbed back up to our 2006 level of net assets. And this is New Mexico. Our entire population for the state is a little over 2 million people. State employees and retirees account for about 120,000 people. About half active and half retired.

BTW, it isn't just Republicans that look to steal from state pension plans. The first thing Governor Bill Richardson tried to do was borrow from our pension plan. He found out it is Hitler's Eagle Nest.

You really shouldn't spout off bullshit you don't know shit about. You and your friends talk too fucking much. This is why I don't have any friends. Who needs them (sic)? I'm a lone wolf and can kick anybody's ass or figure something out without any help from so-called knowledgeable friends to lead me the way.

Nevertheless, using your same mentality, "what is to stop" the government from forcing us to pay for medical coverage under penalty of the law? Ask that question to your butt-buddies. Or is it too late?

____

I wonder if Nancy Pelosi was her sponsor.

Time for some serious back-pedalling, Christine.

You'd think her supporters would be demanding to know where the altar is.

Maybe she can rebound by leading a crowd of pitchfork and torch wielding baggers to her old coven house.

Seriously, though - having a picnic on a Satanic altar and saying it was blood spattered?

How did Satan get time off the the whole 'House Speaker' gig??

Much like the magazine, the Stereophile forums should be a place of free and open discussion, but we do not condone personal attacks from one member to another. In order to keep conversations on this forum healthy and consistently active, we ask that all personal attacks be left aside and stick to arguing about what really matters: the actual topic of discussion.

We appreciate you support in keeping our forum a happy place for rewarding discussion.

Lamont, you can't do that they have blue football grass. My TV hurts every time they come on.

As as for Buddah's friend from CA moving to Utah, buy the whole state, have everyone move out, put your house right in the middle and vote for your self and just win, baby. From what I hear CA's gubber-natorial election is "none of the above".
