I was looking at the Squeezebox Radio and was wondering if someone was just interested in accessing the audio internet streaming portion of the Squeezebox, that The Radio might be the way to go if the quality of the analogue audio out was very good.

My wife's computer, upstairs, is the first off our router and is the central computer for home email. (I use my email at school more than get emails at home) Also, no music files of any quality are stored on her central computer as most good ones are on my 3 computers in my office and Man Cave, and only two of those, my latptop is wireless and my desktop has CAT 6 hardwired into the router up stairs.

If I set the Squeezebox on my desk next to my desktop could I access all those audio files in there through a short CAT 6 cable? I would just stream internet radio wirelessly. I could also run a 20 foot optical cable to my Pioneer Elite Ht reciever for any 5.1 I may do.

Just trying to get a handle on what I will need to be contemplating and doing.

Thanks,

If you are so smart and know better at Stereophile how come you never wrote that THX was crap?

that dinky central and rear speakers mated to cheap subwoofer (s) were a waste?

The only one advocating 5 full range speakers 15 years ago was Gary Reber of Widescreen Review who actually started the home cinema craze

I bought 5 NHT 3.3s in 1995 and never regretted it
I never used Dolby THX

I always thought that the use of subwoofers was a waste in video as well, THX or not as the bass is overdone on most DVDs

Kal, you probably have seen this but I thought it very interesting...

Andrew Bird Does "Surround" At The Guggenheim

The horns are made from recycled newsprint and dryer lint and shellac. Wild stuff.

Yeah right
Running away after losing all arguments

I am not finished with you but now I am talking to the two or three guys lurking behind you in this forum
Why does your full range center speaker needs a subwoofer since your subwoofer is taking over the low frequencies?

Such a waste

But really buy yourself a projector
I don't know how you can review all those processors without video and live concert music
There are so few medias in 5 ch encoded music that, to me, a 5 ch audio set up is a waste without the video, without a projector

I have not lost any arguments; I have just lost patience with your non sequitors and seemingly marginal awareness.

Consequently, you will get all the last words from here on out.

If there is any way to increase my enjoyment of lisitening to music and, yes, make it sound more like real instruments/performers in a real acoustic space I am all for it. It is why I have spent money in trying to enjoy a real performance recorded "very well" in the comfort of my own home. I can only imagine listening to MC SACD through 5-B&W 800's, but that would be impossible to be a bad thing.

The only goal of my hifis has been to recreate a real performance in my home and my major systems (to me) do that and it is the quality of the recordings that makes that happen.

I will be buying a few new MC SACDs this month and hope I can find a classical and a jazz disc that I will truly enjoy. I doubt that will be much of a problem.
