You are pathetic like most of your comrades here
Chinese movies are much bigger than Jet Li's
There are some of the greatest movies ever made

- Farewell My Concubine (an absolute materpiece)
- Red Firecracker Green Firecracker
- The Emperor and the Assassin
- The Emperor's Shadow
- Temptress Moon
- Ju-Dou
- Qiu Ju
- Lust Caution
- 2046
- Springtime in a Small Town
- In the Mood for Love
- So Close to Paradise
- To Live
- Xiu Xiu
- Zhou Yu's Train
- Shower (not what you think; it is a masterpiece)
- The Way Home
- Eat Drink Man Woman (Hong Kong Chinese)
- Hong Kong 1941
- Fallen Angels
- Chungking Express

and many more than you have never heard of
much less insular than Japanese movies

all in Terrence Malick, Peter Bogdanovich, Bertolucci and Louis Malle league

Watched The Red Cliff tonight.

Been catching those Jet LI set in China flicks, too.

Great western style action and heroes.

I give The Red Cliff a 9.

I watch alot of them not knowing the names, but the ones that start out with a little narrative aboout conflicting Chinese clans and reiions are best, with really quality epic story lines and actions.

If only Clint had been Chinese.

Very Shakesperian, as well.

Any other aficionados? I'd chase down your recommendations.

I have all of Bruce Lee's movies.. He is my favorite martial arts fighter of all-time. What an incredible human being and life story.

Personally, I just dig the Chinese people as a whole. What a fantastic culture! and committment to family. We can learn alot of values from that culture

It is a cruel society that has gone from

- a feudal aristocracy to meritocratie with imperial exams around the country

- Taoism, sexual art, effortless effort, non action, watching their navel all day, making love to virgins just to stay in shape and in harmony with nature, to confucian puritanism, action, nobility of virtue assorted with killing newborn female infants and hypocrisy

A son takes care of his folks by necessity. His son in turn will take care of him. It is their SS!

Still, after saying all that, I greatly admire their culture
although one has to know that they consider white men inferior to them, even trash

The Chinese owns everything in Asia, Philippines, etc
I recommend the French movie "The Lover" with Tony Leung
instead of losing your eyesight on those brianless martial art movies

One definitely worth watching that captures the core of modern chinese/martial arts is Jet Li in Fearless (worth watching as it is about the life of a great martial artist so makes the scenes and story more interesting).
A true story of a rather remarkable person, in a way when you compare his early/late life and how it turns around is similar to that of a Japanese legend Miyamoto Musashi.
Both highly regarded in each of their own cultures, but both started out not quite what you would call role models.

Cheers

Oh, I agree that the Chinese government has blood on their hands with the forced abortion policy. No doubt. But I was only referring to the positive things about the citizens in general. I have friends that are missionaries over in China and they say that the old, communistic ways are deteriorating, maybe that can be attributed to western influence via the U.S. giving M.F.N. to China as a major trading partner. I would hope that would factor in to some degree. Or perhaps, maybe not.

I like the concept of children taking care of thier parents. Maybe if that mentality were more prevalent in the U.S. the welfare and social programs wouldn't be as huge as they are, and the entitlement mentality would dissapate and the beneficiaries of this would be the American taxpayer.

Interesting. I like reading the things you post, You are an informed individual and I have learned a few things. Thanks Grosse!

I will say that those missionary friends tell me that they don't have to worry about thier kids as much due to the very low crime rate, especially after dark. But as Benjamin Franklin very eloquently stated, "Those that would sacrifice freedom for temporary security, deserve neither freedom nor security." Or something like that

Mark,

In Europe people take care of their familly much more than in the US while at the same time their social net is no comparison to the US
If you have familly in Europe you generally have food and shelter
Then you have welfare
Only drunks and people with psychological problems sleep in the street, unlike in the US

I grew up around the world playing with Japanese, arabs and american kids and I was always struck by how nice american mothers were with their kids. "Darling can I fix you something".. etc, while I had to do everything myself at home, not unlike the kid alone in the kitchen while adults are partying in the house in Steven Spielberg's "Empire of the Sun".

I always wanted an american mother and I always thought that I would end up marrying an american girl because I found them beautiful and unpretentious! I think that kids in america have a much better time than kids in Europe. So I am always surprised when I see an american familly litterally exploding after kids are raised with everybody going their separate way and suing each other.

Later on I found american women impossible to live with for any long period of time but good in bed. They always had an orgasm. No inhibition like with some roman catholic girls. Very good mothers but one better be prepared to do the cooking wth them and of course bring money home otherwise they just kick you out, busisness like. No feeling. No tenderness. No loyalty. Nothing. You are history.

I have to say that I completely agree with your examination of American women, for it has been my experience as well. Except, it sounds as if you may have had better luck than I did with the orgasm thing ( I had a few fakers . Oh sure thing, as long as I was funneling money into their checking and savings accounts, they were all peachy keen. When hard times hit..they were ready to throw in the towel. Very cold and callous to the point of contention when the trying times came.

I have learned a very hard lesson when the new wife says she wants to pay all the bills and she needs you to "just put your paycheck in my checking account and I will pay them".. Major red flag! when they suggest it.

In Europe we think that they are only good to marry wealty since they are going to leave you anyway

They'll gladly leave you in charge of grown up kids if they think their job is done, ready for their next adventure but kipping your name if it is aristocratic, chic and useful

What they do is not unlike mountain climbing
My mother I never liked always told me not to marry a flighty american woman

Thank you guys, for explaining what all Chinese people are like, and all women. Up to now I thought people, as individuals and as groups, were richly complex and varied, and develop based on a billion factors in genetics, culture, upbringing, brain development, temperament, geography, personality, etc. Now I can relax and just know truths such as American women are good mothers but are cold gold diggers, and that Chinese people are murderous yet kind to their parents. Much simpler, thanks!
