When I was traveling 5 states in the wireless business there used to be a 1 or 2 great used record stores downtown Nashville. Are they still there? I would sure think so.

There is one in Atl just south of Little 5 points owned by Thom Osborne (Feed Your Head Music) who I met off the Steve Hoffman forum. I haven't been in a while, but I think this SAT a trip is in store for me.

There is another one up in Buckhead (North ATL) called Fantasyland that also has a great collection. I've bought there many times.

You may be referring to Ernest Tubb records on the main drag. I have not been in there in years, but I need to know if it is still open. My favorite places for records are Grimey's and The Great Escape. No particular order, Grimey's has more cool stuff but is more expensive. Then there is Phonolux, which can be quite pricey.

The trumpet part at 1:57 to about 2:17 on "Close to Me" is pretty good Hi Fi, too!

I once took a date to see The Cure at The Rose Bowl and we were surrounded by 80,000 identically clad and coifed people who each thought there was nobody else on earth like them.

My day at the record store was great till I got home! I purchased the new Ray Lamontgne record, only to go home and throw it on the TT and discover it was warped to shit. I call the store and he tells me I left it in the car in the sun but to to bring it in. Needless to say he was reluctant to give me new one. I get home and it was slightly warped but nothing like the previous one where the tone arm is gonna fly off!!

love you Buddha but whoa... I bet you don't know what each of those 80,000 people thought. At least they (and I) were in a community centered around original creative music and cool sounds. I bet there was more tolerance there for differing thoughts and looks than at, say, a Toby Keith concert.

A friend, Thom Osborne, owns Feed Your Head Music in Atlanta near little 5 Ponts on flat Shoals south of I-20 and stopped in yesterday after the DR. and spent $20 on 3 Genesis albums. Was Looking for some vinyl Monk, but some nice finds anyway. Thom's a great guy.

No, he'll attack "someone" who just bought a phono cable, with a stupid poll in another thread, and to no avail I must add

The poor fella must be bored to hell...

Sounds like "resurfacing"? I would think the obligation of running other peoples fun through the meat grinder would be an awful night shift job. So little accomplished. Nothing gained.

Seems it was exactly that. Dup was here under the user name Bobz. He's now excluded again, lol.

Dropped by Joe's Record Paradise in Silver Spring last week, picked up:

Kraftwerk - Trans Europe Express

R.E.M. - Chronic Town

Rick Astley - Whenever You Need Somebody (hahahaha)

All in great condition for just under thirty bucks.

Ha! Nice one. I almost picked up a Rick Astley record the other day, but it wasn't the single I really wanted. If I ever run into "Never Gonna Give You Up," though, that thing is mine. I did, however, pick up John Cougar Mellencamp's Scarecrow and, man, it is surprisingly good.

By the way, I'm really enjoying your blog!

Glad you like it, it's a really new blog and my first attempt at writing reviews so i'm still trying to generate hits and a userbase. I think i'll make a habit from now on to review every recording I purchase, no matter how obscure or how popular.

"Do you remember Rick Astley?
He had a big fat hit that was ghastly.
He said "I'm never gonna give you up or let you down."
Well Im here to tell ya that dicks a clown
Though he was just a boy when he made that vow.
I'd bet it all that he knows by now."

All Men Are Liars - Nick Lowe.

Wise man that Mr. Lowe!

Sorry Stephen, you and I part company on your greater appreciation of more mainstream pop. Which delights me as I am not as adventerous as you in terms of appreciation of noise and dissonance. C'est la vie!

"I have no taste."

Poppycock! You have steered me toward lots of fine music! Your taste is just a tad more wide and eclectic than mine, and I am the richer for your influence. Really.

C'mon D3. I'm sure you have at least a couple of selections you're embarrased to admit owning and playing.

FWIW: I have that Rick Astley on CD. If I find it on vinyl I'll buy it.
