I have had some of the odd versions on mp3 as well. Not like what I have on vinyl or cd, not like anything I remember from my youth, and not very good either. I'd prefer the vinyl if most of them weren't so scratched. The only perfect vinyls I have are Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road on a Jap pressing.

I find mp3's, in general, seem to offer up a different perspective.

For The Beatles set, there seems to be more midrange emphasis which may seem to take away from the bass line.

It's been completely fine for hooking the mp3 player to the car system, but there is a distinct 'not quite right-ness' on the mp3's.

Which tracks are you thinking of and maybe we can compare, I have that same USB set.

Buddha, I am at the office for awhile, but I will be back to the editing task after dinner and give you an answer.

The mp3s sound different from vinyl or other full range media of course, but the differences between the various mp3s was unexpected and quite interesting!

OK, back at home, and Nowhere Man is best from my own rip of the Japanese import, the second best is the Yellow Submarine Songbook version, with the USB version coming in a bass anemic last. This is avoiding the mono versions as a different matter entirely.

On Piggies, the USB version has a nice sparkle while still maintaining a bit of bass. My domestic album rip lacks the sparkle but catches a bit more bass.

And so it goes! I have not found muc of a pattern, but then I have not looked too hard for one!

What do you think Buddha?
