Do manufacturers get pissed when this happens during a review? Is it like an auto journalist wadding up a Ferrari at Fiorano? Just curious.

They weren't happy :-)

But they got new drivers to us in short order, along with detailed instructions on how to replace the damaged ones.

I wrote about our fun day at work replacing the Giya's midrange drivers. Click through the links to see pictures.

Of course, I remember that article well. It's a real mystery how the shipped tweeter got deformed...unless it was UPS .

A while ago I bought some replacement tweeters for some KLH Model 17's on eBay- for my vintage Fisher tube integrated and Mac tube tuner. Previous owner cut all the wires- yikes. No connectors- just solder joints from the crossovers. Now it's a project!

i think it was probably not the delivery company. most of the speakers that i have seen in that price range come in individualized shipping coffins made of wood. could be the last reviewers?

The speakers were okay when they were set-up and also when I later performed my in-room measurements. Wes Phillips is adamant that it wasn't him who dented the domes, so all we can surmise is that it was Wes's cleaning woman when she dusted them.

Thank God I can't afford a cleaning woman!

JA: a friend of mine lost the cantilever from an Einstein TU-3 cartridge that way, so probably so. cleaning people need to be instructed to stay out of stereo rooms.

UPS actually has the diabolical ability to damage goods AFTER they are delivered. It's their version of the Teletransportation Tweak.

Glad to hear reviewers can afford cleaning staff!

It's interesting that the manufacturer would "not be happy" about getting you updated parts (they are under the brightest of spotlights here) but not at all surprised they got you the goods in short order.

As a consumer....If they expressed their "unhappiness" to Wes and JA, I wonder how I'd fare!

Remember, you probably see the best case examples of customer service.

Or not, in the case of Mr. Lickte.

Pretending you were a consumer...and you or your hired help bashed in your midranges, leaving the manufacturer "unhappy," could we get a follow up as to what the charge for two new midrange units would be for non-warranteed damage?

If someone were to own these babies, that fraglie midrange unit might need to be factored in to how we assess our cost of ownership and how we pay our cleaning minions.

Wouldn't that be like a Ferrari customer asking how much to change the timing belt?

Actually, Ferrari at least has a history of longevity.

Imagine owning these speakers and also knowing how high end speaker lines come and go.

I'd need a belt tweak to stay calm wondering if something broke on this baby, would the company survive to help with repair!

We're talking some potentially pricey doorstops.

Damn sure no insurance companies will touch this case! They are never there when we need them
