I'd have to read the complete article, but there's a difference between typical environmental EM interference due to cell phones and attaching a cell phone directly to the hive. That said, we never once lost a single colony in either our apiary or field site while I was in Las Vegas. In an urban environment like that, which would have exponentially more EM interference due to cell phones, we would expect to have observed colony collapse in some form or another; yet, the highest incidence of CCD is in rural environments on colonies maintained by professional beekeepers.

My unofficial opinion is that it is due to mismanaged animal husbandry practices. There are always a variety of parasites, fungi, virii, and other stresses that honey bees must deal with; their mechanisms to mitigate these stresses are due solely to the genotypes beekeepers manage and maintain. Introducing new genetic lines (importing bees from Australia) certainly may not have the desired effect of transferring robust traits to the hybrid offspring.

I know bees are important but there are other perhaps more ahem, pressing issues regarding these cell phones.

This abuse is on the rise and could have severe implications for future generations. My wife occasionally stashes hers there while at work. And my daughter gets hers and more in there with her double D's.

This is most distracting not to mention concerning to this big melon lover. Have you noticed this. Chicks groping themselves in public in an attempt to retrieve lost possesions?
