Hey Steve, here is my rig. I have a rega p3 with some upgrades, a Grado Plat 1 cartridge that goes into the Bellari phono amp. Not the one with the built in analog to digital converter.

Then I plug the resulting signal into my m-audio 24/96 sound card on my desktop. I use wavepad software and record an album side at 96kHz with a 24 bit word length. I end up with a HUGE file of a side at a time.

Then I use the wavepad program to go back through the large file and break each file into songs and take out any big clicks or pops. I save each file as a wav file, then use dbPower to convert that file to a 24/96 WMA lossless file.

Whew!

From that big file I can burn cds, burn mp3s for the iPod, or listen to the big files directly. They are gorgeous! Big bass, that wonderful silky quality that vinyl has is mostly there, and there is much, much less digititus.

They do not sound as good as the vinyl itself in direct comparison. But the kick the feces out of cd quality rips. My wife in the next room can tell the difference.

There must be 100 ways to do this, but that is my version. For me, the big rips are way worth it. You can get the card for $100, the software for $30, and a 1.5 terabyte drive for $90. I have two drives in order to back up the hard work.
