Just wait until they fully break in. One of the things that I did to speed that up is every couple of days switch the cords around until they had all spent a couple of days on my amp because it pulls the most power that cord broke in the fastest.
Thanks for the comments guys,won't be able to try your suggestion re swapping, due to component layout ( side by side on floor) and to save cash , amp has a 1 m.cable ,cd player has a 2m. cable.
Glad you mentioned improvement after breakin -I am also expecting further minor improvement when I install new wall outlet -no on/off switch to impede current flow, new contacts with no oxidation and will also cut back inwall cable to expose fresh copper...

JS is Jonathan Scull who used to be a reviewer with Stereophile.
JS pioneered, along with sam Tellig...at least for me...the first person personal style of reviewing, placing his reviews in a social context as well as a straight descripiton of a piece of gear.

Hi all, mrlowry's comment about wait till they are fully broken in has got me thinking (and not being too keen on wasting several hundred hours of component life on breakin)Anyway, to cut to the chase -I found a 3 pin ac - iec adaptor at my local electronics store -bought 2 of them to daisy chain the 2 new power cables to a power strip which powers amp & CDP, computer, monitor and 20w hybrid valve amp, and just to be sure - a 500w halogen floodlight!
I play recorded tv shows on computer on repeat while I'm at work, or sleeping,and the halogen floodlight only when I am home.
Don't know exact figures, but obviously the PC's are handling much more juice than if just connected to amp & cdp- plan to "cook" them for a week then listen, then maybe another week's cooking- 170+ hours at an average 300w-500w with 6-8 hrs a day at 1000w, yeah that should do it!
I have had a great power cable for my amp for a while, and have recently bought one for my CDP as well. My immediate experience is that the sound got more detailed, more crisp, and more dynamic, but I am waiting for the break-in to happen too. Can't wait till it's done
Yes Keld, I agree with your description of the effects of new power cable on sound - and I would add "punchier"-sound now fairly leaps out of speakers -a most impressive upgrade!!! I wonder what body parts I can sell to finance matching balanced interconnects and speaker cable!!!
I just replaced both speaker cables and a balanced IC recently too. Major improvements! The speaker cables were solid core Audioquest Type 4 and Tara Labs Omni Prism 8 (bi-wired setup), but were replaced with Supra Ply 3.4/S (single wired setup).
The balanced IC was a custom built IXOS silver-plated OFC, that I replaced with a set of Vincent High End XLR shielded cables. Wow! There's a lot of good sound for the money in those Chinese cables!
