Yes, it definately has that vibe, but a decent 2 ch system is all I need to get into this music!
I like the lyrics on the David Byrne song:

Some of their other albums are quite different from the examples I gave, so watch out. Some of their stuff even has The Girl From Ipanema sound (!!!), but Cosmic Game contains some very engaging music.
"Behind the power curve"? I'll have to remember this one. Yup, you are ... this particular curve happened back in the nineties. Thievery Corporation were the front of "downtempo electronica".
Other bands you might want to check are Kruder and Dorfmeister (KD Sessions) ...
