"You say that I am ignoring the time-honored traditions of the Royal Navy? And what might they be? I shall tell you in three words. Rum, buggery, and the lash! Good morning sirs."
- Winston Churchill addressing the Sea Lords, 1912
Time to chill out. Just so long as someone can shoot straight, who cares?
It's not like soldiers are supposed to be out expressing their heterosexuality, either.
We seem to have survived allowing black people to serve, eh? Remember what a fuss that was?
We seem to have survived allowing chicks, too.
Hell, they even overcame allowing Jewish people to serve!
I wonder what JIMV will say?
Allowing gays to serve is a liberal notion!
Gays have always been in the military. It's a Greek thing.
I know- that's what is so dumb about it. I think it's widely held that a number of famous warriors and generals have been gay and have achieved some stellar results. It's juts a matter of time now that you have the top command saying that they see no problem with it.
"Straight, who cares if they are straight, I want to know, can they shoot straight?" - Barry Goldwater
Can you imagine the fear if we dropped leaflets over the Taliban stating if they don't give up we are going to drop elite gay commandos that don't give a shit about anything on their asses? You know they are coming when the psyop chopper starts blasting Queen on their positions.
There was agreat politcal cartoon of two taliban reading a newspaper and one says to the other, "Wow, I sure hope I don't get killed by a gay soldier!"
You know, that might actually work.
I do not believe that was a poll of the folk actually IN the military.
I was in the military. We didn't give a shit if somebody was gay or not. And we had a lot of freaks in the military during the Cold War years. What would you think of a straight officer putting your jeep in between two armored personnel carriers in a black out convoy? A gay officer would have immediately seen that sort of combination clashes.
so as my 1SG said to me as I stepped into the Office on my first day of duty as a green, buck private in combat.
"Son, out here you aint gay if youre the one doing the fucking"
I slept eyes open for a while.
