I've been through it several times now and mostly it's nice to hear her voice again, but the album doesn't real grab me.
I'll keep at it.

I loved her first album on LP - demo quality!
I got to meet her at a party during her stop at the Concord Pavillion back in...somewhere between July 1988 and June 1991. She is very lovely. She wouldn't marry me.
Got to go to a meet and greet in L.A. when she played Universal Amphitheater (somewhere during 1992 or 1993) and she remembered the shirt I was wearing the first time...but she still wouldn't marry me.
Luckily, I married up from there.

Kinda like the joke about Hillary Clinton meeting up with an old boyfriend. He says "Bet you're glad you didn't marry me, if you had you'd be the wife of a humble garage mechanic" to which she replies "No. If I'd married you, you would have become President of the United States". Hoo hoo.

So how does one properly pronounce Sade? I thought it was shah-day', but the recent ads throw an "r" into it.

Well according to Wikipedia* the correct pronunciation is 'shah-DAY', so that must be right.
Maybe they were thinking of (or drinking) 'shah-donn-ay'?

A linguist friend of mine indicates that it is shar-DAY, but with a very soft "r" - one that is difficult for 'mercans to say.
Listened through a few times today and I have to agree. First impression is of material that is the result of some very meticulous synthetic process, not passionate artisitc creativity. It struck me that the lyrics somehow seem a lot more trite than her previous albums, or is it just me becoming more cynical in my dotage? Amazingly her voice hasn't changed one iota in 26 years though.
Like you, I'll keep at it.
There's one song that I was sure the lyrics were, "You're daddy knows, you were a fling." Which seemed very cynical.
My kids (two boys, aged 9 and 12, who are Black Eyed Peas fans) thought it was, "Your lady lumps, are my thing." (Then they laughed hysterically.)
That song is turning into one of those cuts on an album that CD makes better - you can just hit the 'next' button.
Funny, in the same song I thought she sang "Your daddy don't come with a lifetime guarantee" which also struck me as very cynical but was also wrong. I should point out, audiophile siblings, that I had the music on in the background in the next room, this is not a resolving problem with my system!
