Hey Steve,
Good to see you back. I hope you have been enjoying your Classic 4's and Power 5 amp.
Great list of CDP's, love the top two choices.
Enjoy
Top 2 choices here as well.
Thanks guys. I've been enjoying the NHT Classic 4s and Power 5 tremendously. I also bought an Adcom GFP-750 recently......funny story....I was looking for a used one and on a whim decided to write Adcom an email. Turns out they had the parts to build 6 brand new GFP-750's and had been selling them throughout the '09 year when people contacted them. I was able to get the last brand new GFP-750 direct from Adcom. Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to hook it up yet.
Almost everything I've read about the Sony is flattering with the exception of one review where they liked the Sony more for SACD, but the Marantz more for CD. Do either of you (or anyone else follow this thread) have any experience with these two players.....or any reason to agree/disagree with the idea the Marantz may be better for CD over the Sony?
The Sony is not in the same class with the others you list.
It is so much better that the others are 3rd-rate by comparison.
Stereophile rates the Sony A+, while the others are maybe Class B at best.
But more to the point, I had been using the Ayre C5-Xe, which is rated A+ also, and the Sony blows even IT away; no comparison!
I think it is the best-sounding CD player for less than $10,000 period!!
Its $1500 price tag is an anomoly; if they were selling it for $8000 I would have bought it in a heartbeat. I have never heard such wonderful sound.
