CDs: 4 Beatles Remasters: Let It Be, Yellow Submarine, Magical Mystery Tour, and Beatles for Sale. I already owned Revolver. Miles Davis In concert from 1964, Norah Jones The Fall & Not Too Late, Robben Ford Soul On Ten, music DVDS: Remembering Dave Brubeck, Bob James and FourPlay (2 concerts), An Evening with Nat King Cole,, ELO which is OK, and a Jane Monheit DVD still on its way.

In my man cave with the Philips 42" the music videos are great. Sound is from my Triangle Cometes in glorious 2.0.

Glad my family finally gave up the neck ties. 39 years later they got it right. I have found some great music videos off Amazon all for under $10 in many cases. The Brubeck DVD is great. It chronicles his whole life. It is amazing what can be found for $5-6.

We watched it on Christmas Eve! Great movie. Tarantino makes you think that every little detail is important. And he's a king of making violence look beautiful.

Great stuff, Jim. I also got the new Norah Jones album on vinyl. Haven't listened to it yet, though. Have you?

I've gotta do 'got and gave' this year. The picks were too much fun.

I GOT the Bing Crosby radio transcriptions I mentioned in other threads. Also, though this isn't really related, the one volume complete 'Bone,' which is a delight.

I GAVE:

- to my son, the new Mos Def, which is very good, Finale's 'A Pipe Dream And A Promise' and a collection of de la Soul b sides and remixes.

I know zip about hip-hop, and got the Mos Def and Finale by consulting the "PopMatters" year end list.

And he got "Inglorious Basterds" too. We went to see it when it first came out and loved it.

My daughter got Cobalt's 'Gin' because of the PopMatters list. Also, Tati's 'Trafic,' and if you don't like Tati then you don't like comedy. Finally, I got her the new vinyl collection of Velvet Underground singles. Am I a good dad or what?

I got Herbie's gliders to put under my Watt/Puppies.

I've got an old tudor with hardwood floors that are spongy.

The gliders made a very large diff. Bass was tightened, midrange clearer and imaging was even better.

The only downside is I've been listening so much it's hard to work :-)

I gave myself a dedicated listening room/library. Started the remodel a couple of weeks ago. The goodies to fill it up are still in my shopping cart. If all goes well, in a couple of months I'll become a hermit in my mancave.

You're a great dad, I'm sure!

I gave my mom Grizzly Bear's Veckatimest, on CD. She listened to it in the car and said it was mellow and that it made her sad. (Aw, I didn't mean to make her sad!) She likes it, though.

I gave the same album, on vinyl, to a good friend of mine. Something about the quality of the album's beauty reminds me of the quality of this friend's beauty. Not sure if that makes sense. The music reminds me of her, even the colors in the album art remind me of her. She loved it.

Gave the Lost Boys soundtrack to my youngest sister. (We had seen the movie together, and though she didn't seem very impressed at the time, she later said she loved it.) She's into vampires and stuff. I also promised her that I'd take her record shopping at Other Music. I think she'll enjoy the experience.

Gave Robert Baird a copy of Mississippi Records' Fight On, Your Time Ain't Long -- awesome compilation of blues songs from 1927-1934.

Gave my uncle Omar a vinyl reissue of Mudhoney's Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge. He took his old band's name (Fuzzgun) from a song on that album ("Fuzzgun '91").

ML got a record; JD got a record; JW got a record; M got a record. With all this present-giving, I obviously bought a few records for myself, as well!

JA doesn't listen to vinyl anymore, so he got bottle of beer.

So, what did you guys get for Christmas? Any great hi-fi/music presents?

I got the vinyl reissue of Nirvana's Nevermind. It sounds awesome.

Nice blog entry Stephen and it would had been interesting to see how Nirvan would had evolved.
Still, everytime I listen to In Your Honor by Foo Fighters quite a few tracks bring me back to thinking of Nirvana and what may had been.

What I received this year on CD/hybrid was Claire Martin (A Modern Art), and little miss cheerful Maria Taylor (Lady Luck).
Got to say Claire Martin is a bit special.

Oh, and Happy New Year to you all

Cheers

It wasn't a Christmas present, but since my birthday is close to Christmas, I'm counting it for this post;

My wife got me the Pet Sounds Sessions box set. Listening to Brian Wilson's a cappella vocal arrangements is just heaven.

I love my wife.

Stephen,

The Monheit DVD came today and is a concert version of her album John Marks like, as do I. The video was not a clean as I would have liked, but the music was excellent.

Norah Jones "Not To late" is excellent, but I have always liked her. The albums sparce instuments give her voice a great place to shine. The recording is excellent and puts her front and center with good clarity.

I will bet you will love the vinyl on your P3-24. On a couple of tracks there is some spaciousness to her voice that I would love to know how it comes out on the LP. I think a later night listen (10PMish) with a nice glass of Burgundy might just be the thing to call in the New Year.

You and the Phile staff have a great New Year and a safe night.

Jim
