I don't know if audio stand up comedy would ever work, but AD might be the only one to pull it off. He is to audio what Jerry Seinfeld is to a "show about nothing". He is a riot. I still think about the guy from AA crapping in his hat. Who makes this stuff up? No one but AD.

I have not got my copy yet, but reading that line here already has me laughing my ass off.

Man's mind was not designed with a television attached to it. Television may do a few good things, but it does stupefy the mind. It should be noted that children's minds shut completely off when in front of it.

Stupification is the end result. A veritable legion of automatons is the result, ones who can, largely, only act passively to input - exactly like their training in front of it predicates, as it is employed, concerning the young - during the mind's formation.

Oh well. Maybe, in the end, that turns out to be the point.

There is a whiff of revisionist history in Art's column this month.

As I recall, MF loved the Tice Clock, but then reviewed a similar clock - was it called the "National" or something like that? - that did an even more wonderful job and was actually listed in his reference components for a period of time.

Art's blanket dismissal of Stereophile's reviews of the Tice Clock strike me like trying to explain away some terrible picture of the hobby wearing a leisure suit and sporting a 'white man' hair perm.

(I wish I could recall the name of the clock that outperformed the Tice. I'll try going back to look at old reviews and reference systems from the time.)

I would like to weigh in on Dudly's efforts this month...

First, he is perhaps the best writer on the staff.
Next, he is as child like about things political as he is skilled as that writer.
and finally..why I am posting

The Qx4...He tells us what is in it...a power supply, a single circuit board, an 18 pin chip....that's it. Then he advises on the price of this, let's be generous, couple of hundred bucks in parts...$2399!!!...yep, well over two grand, and you need two of them...$400 in parts...$4800...madness, and then he makes a bleeding heart political statement (though how giving to the poor justifies price gouging in the high end is sort of lost on me)

I am sure the company is great. I wish I could afford the cables, but selling a tiny number of parts at wildly inflated price to produce a real effect that no one can explain is simply wacky...

What next, snake handling or patent medicine shows?

There should be some embarrassment on this one, regardless of how well the fellow writes..piffle and overpriced do not change with proper grammar and entertaining writing...

And child like political views are, at the end of the day, still child like and do not belong in an audio magazine.

I thank you for your bluntness as I value the opinion of idiot political neophytes...Was there any point in the political stupidity presented? In fact, your note proves my point...what exactly is gained by mindless political rants, from either side, in an audio magazine. I admit it might make the wine and brie cocktail party revolutionaries feel all warm and cuddly but it simply pisses off folk on the other side and says zip, zero nada about audio.

The magazine is Stereophile, not Das Kapital Monthly.

When one is surrounded by naked folk, noting the emperor is naked is often the cause of derision, but derision does not clothe that emperor.

Now moving past your political ignorance, what about my point? $5K for a few hundred in parts?
