I think you'd be better off trading the speakers for passive ones (without an amp).
The Sony receiver does not seem to be able to bypass its amplifer section and therefore is not a good match to your speakers.
Your speakers are designed primarily for use with computers which don't have an amp.
You'll want a receiver with Pre Outs or Zone 2 line outs, or there might be a way to configure the audio out for the Video 1 jacks. In any case you'll need a line output to feed those active speakers.
If you are not going to use the complete 5.1 output of an AV receiver you could consider a stereo reciever that accepts AV input like the Harman Kardon HK3390. It has 3 composite video inputs and pre out (audio line out) jacks. Then at some point in the future you could get some good passive loudspeakers.

Eek. Seems I am going down a completely bad path then.
I will have to investigate more, as I haven't budgeted for speakers, and I wont get much for the M-Audios I have. I need a receiver with HDMI outs as my playstation and that are running through it.
