Okay. We already knew this. Banks lend for profit. Sometimes they, er, over-extend.

The solution? First, NEVER keep more money in ANY bank that the FDIC will guarantee. Second, buy gold. The only asset that does not have a liability on the other side of the balance sheet. Unless it is booked via a futures contract. If you don't understand that, then go to CFTC.gov and explore what a futures contract is, WHY it is, and what implications all that has for future problems in the banking system. Remember, there are futures contracts for ALL the abstract paper that governs your lives.

Lamont, you work for "The Government." Just what the fuck is your POINT?

Hey Lamont,

Are you advocating the virtues of socialism again?

"Some people" believe with great fervor preposterous things that just happen to coincide with their self-interest. "Some people" have convinced themselves that wages are not income, that only gold is money, that the Sixteenth Amendment is unconstitutional, and so on. These beliefs all lead--so "some people" think--to the elimination of their obligation to pay [their fair share]. The government may not prohibit the holding of these beliefs, but it may penalize people who act on them. (emphasis added).

It does not mean that "The People" have to pay for the mistakes of "Some People". This is where I draw the line between social acts and acts of capitalism. The banks are the victims. The perpetrators are "some people" that have worked the banks down into the ground on both sides of the banker's desk. The government shutting down such banks are the acts of The People putting them out of their misery no different than shooting a lame horse. It is really no different than the regulators catching up with Bonnie & Clyde though America loved them [bank robbers] for what they were doing. Getting something for nothing. If anyone is going to get away with robbing a bank it is going to be the government, and as such, handing the money over to failed capital ventures such as General Motors at the cost of The People. "What is good for the company is good for everyone". And as the invisible hand of supply and demand goes Ford, which would have been just fine if General Motors closed it doors no different than any other business that failed on its own merit. Why do banks not get a free ride? Because they shouldn't and that is only right but that isn't the way it is.

And yet, throughout your misguided rationalization, you are still the agent of the enforcement arm of the socialist state that you despise. It is time for you to take a stand. It is time for you to turn your back on the socialist system and act upon your beliefs. Go out there and practice capitalism in all its glory. Put behind you the safety of social welfare as practiced within the halls that are walked by the government employees (i.e. bureaucrats). You are better than that. You are Lamont! Take your fate in your own hands. Embrace self determination and hard work and carve your own destiny.

Alas, it is too late for me. I'm vested in the retirement plan. The rest of you learn from my mistakes. Go out into the real world. Take risks. Live your lives to their fullest. Read Joseph Heller and Upton Sinclair. Look, listen, learn.

Sure, it's easy for you to say as you sit around, collecting da gubbement pension, while we have to slave for the man who can downsize, downshift us any time so that we become downtrodden.

I'm doing better than voting! I'm trying to get you to quit your job! That will downsize the gov't by at least 1!

If all you do is get one government employee to quit than all your efforts will be worth it. I kinda like that. You could easily force the IRS to give you nonprofit status for that one.

How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

Besides, I'm hoping for a domino effect. I'll get you to quit and all the other pseudo republican bureaucrats will follow like lemmings.

Then you would really only have stupid people working for the government.

At least they won't bite the hand that feeds them. Besides, having "really stupid people" working for the government is not one of the things that frightens me. It can't possibly be any worse than it is now.

I'm a registered Independent and voted for Jesse Jackson for president. You can call home and ask my wife.

Yes, she goes by Mrs. Sanford. Nice lady. For Christmas I got her a pair of golf shoes so she wouldn't slip on the ice when washing my truck.

You don't even know what a communist OR a socialist are, either one. Obama isn't even a socialist, let alone a "red".

You're just spouting more of that rhetoric your idols beck, limbaugh, robertson, etc, have spewed at you in their attemt to foment rebellion.

And you're the chump doing their dirty work, chump.

JJ, I find it very amusing that Lamont, a man who espouses the virtues of unabated capitalism would make his living working for the same government he rallies against.

Well, and his definition of "red" isn't even pink, either, to say the least.
