I dunno, jazzfan, your point is noted but that's really being OCD-hypersensitive about the what YOU'd like the sentence to shape up as? Like you said, the bottom line is that the quote - "The QB-9 isn't a computer peripheral. It makes computers real high-end music sources." - is true. The subject here is the QB-9 and neither the Linn or the Transporter units are in the intention of the writer's sentence, right? If you extend your logic, then, for EVERY statement that is made about any equipment, you'll have to provide provisions for every other relevant maker of some equipment... that seems slightly insane. I get your qualms but I think you have to take the review as it's presented to you; of course one can extrapolate from the review its deficiencies or its strengths, but to demand these extrapolations of yours to be included, de facto, in the article, seems irrational...

I understand your point and maybe I am being a bit "OCD-hypersensitive" about the quote in question but taken in the context of the entire review it does stand out as a statement about how somehow Arye alone has managed to slay the beast and bring computers into the world of high end audio and that just ain't so. Having been a Stereophile reader for many years I can confidently state that Stereophile normally goes out if its way to offer comparisons and alternatives to the equipment under review and with the review of the Ayre QB-9 they, plain and simply, dropped the ball.

Gee jazzfan, I certainly don't read this review as suggesting that the product is unique in this regard. For example, WP does a direct comparison with another DAC... and I think finds them quite comparable.
