I've enjoyed the Keith Jarrett recording -- yeah, him! -- of these pieces for many years. It seems to me that there's a resonance between the works and Jarrett's own improvisational style. I wonder if anybody has heard both Jarrett and Lin and would care to comment.

$36 for a new two-disc set is full price, that's all. If you wait for a few months, you should be able to buy it cheaper from an Amazon seller, or even used. I picked up the even more expensive Sara Marianovich recording of Joaquin Rodrigo's piano music, which was listed at $76 for a two disc set, for only $11.

I do look forward to Ms Lin's set - it's been garnering raves from all corners - but I don't think I'll wait. I'll gladly pay full price for top-notch artistry.

Hi Todd: Yeah, you are right. The price is probably in line with list price. Interesting thing is the price a couple of weeks ago was listed at $48.99! I'm not making this up. So, there has been some improvement recently. Nevertheless, I will wait a few months. Maybe pick it up on eBay for half price or less.

Agreed, Todd. I'm looking forward to listening to Jenny Lin's set... more than that, looks like I missed out on a great Lin recital at Le Poisson Rouge last night, dammit:

As for the Shostakovich P&F sets, I've heard the Jarrett version and frankly it wasn't to my liking. The only recording I own and am familiar with is the Nikolayeva, though... but it'll be interesting to compare Lin's version to hers.

I picked up the set - for about $24 at Amazon Marketplace - and the praise I've read is all well-founded. Superb playing and superb sound, well worth the comparatively meager outlay.
