It seems to me that Art Dudley goofed when connecting load resistors to the secondary of the moving coil step-up transformer.

I don't think that was the case? AD says in the article that he connected the DBP-6MC to the Masseto's MM inputs, not to the moving coil SUT.

Art confirms that the 100 ohm (and other loading resistors he tried) were connected in parallel with the 47k ohms offered by the Shindo Massetto's MM input, not across the output of the transformer, which was not being used for those specific comparisons.

With respect, Mr. Stern, you are mistaken: I neither added a loading resistor to a step-up transformer nor wrote about doing any such thing.

Best wishes --

Hi, Art, while you're here: are you going to do that 78 rpm special column soon, with the Sentec & C-8 evaluation, etc.? Dying to read it, as I'm having an old C-8 refurbed myself. Also, can you or anyone recommend someone who can spruce up an old Pickering 190D transcription arm?

Thanks!

Howdy. Yes, the Sentec is here, and the C-8, which belongs to a friend who lives only a few minutes away, is almost here -- so it will be done, I promise. As to refurbishing the arm, I don't know of anyone offhand, but I'll start asking around. Thanks for being patient on the 78 stuff!

My apologies. I re-read your piece more carefully, and I now see that your discussion transitioned from the DB Systems resistors to the step-up transformer with no overlap between the two topics.

I apologize for consuming both your time and JA's in responding to my post.

Hey, Bob, welcome to the forum first of all! I'm sure it was no sweat on JA & AD's part addressing the issue, and who knows, maybe a few other readers had a similar confusion reading AD's article which deals with both DB systems & A23 Hommage... so if anything, you helped clarify the issue!

You don't owe me an apology! If I devoted time to responding, it was only because I knew that the mistake may well have been mine and not yours: I'm often guilty of those sorts of oversights, and the aging process isn't improving matters any.

Best --
