No responses in three days. Hmm. Could it be possible that nobody has an opinion? Or is this a taboo subject? I rather like that second option.
Most likely no one here has any experience with the two units for a comparison.
I have not used either unit, but I can say that Headroom's crossfeed circuitry is great stuff
http://www.head-fi.org/ would be a great resource for a question like this.
Got the Ray Samuels Predator last week, and I didn't care for it at first. It went beyond "analytical" to thin. Then I let it burn in over the weekend. Wow, what a difference.
This is a very nice amp indeed, especially when tethered to a PC as a DAC. One interesting side effect of its quality. I used to prefer using Dolby Headphone when listening with headphones. But using the Predator's DAC, I hear now that I miss out on some clarity with DHPH in the circuit. Maybe for portable listening with an MP3 player (I'll test that when I have time), but when going from the digital source and using the Predator I hear more without it (without DHPH, that is).
Awesome, Peter! I have the SR-71A, so I know that you have a good amp in your hands... yes, please take that Dolby stuff out of the equation.
