I've got a whole bunch of Blue Note RVG remasters, and the quality varies all over the place. At this moment, I'm listening to Grant Green's Solid, which sounds quite good. Others are not so good.

Pricing on the Blue Note RVGs is quite good though - $12 list, and most can be had online for $10 or less. Bless their hearts for that. I've seen a bunch of Impulse Coltrane albums for $19 in the not-too-distant past, and just shaken my head.

I with you guys on this. I've got a bunch of Blue Note and CTI RVG remasters. Some are very very good and some are mediocre. I'm just glad they're available at all.

MY take is that he was great at getting the talent, but in point of fact, his studio was not state of the art. Wasn't it just a room in his house? Many sound very dry, imagining kind of flat, dynamics often compressed. Too bad, because the recordings are classics and many of the best of 20th century jazz players.

I'm loving these. Scored about two dozen over the last year or so at a local used CD store for 5 and 6 bucks each. This is some of the first jazz I listened to as a kid, and the remasters sound great. The 50s and 60s Blue Note catalog is a goldmine. Jackie McLean, Blue Mitchell, Kenny Dorham, Sonny Clark, Lee Morgan, those cats could PLAY!

Exactly. I was thinking about it the other day - what's to stop another cycle in the next few years in which these albums drop out of availability?

I would love to see the entire Blue Note catalog up as lossless downloads.
