This particular forum arose because some folk, and many, many readers in letters, were complaining about leftist drivel passing as clever lines appearing in actual Stereophile reviews, sort of as throw away lines...what might pass as clever at a gathering of cocktail party revolutionaries on the upper west side, or want to be upper west siders, but which had zero to do with audio or music at all.

Sooner than consider removing such non audio comment from actual magazine articles, they provided a forum home for folk to discuss such issues.

I agree this has nothing to do with audio or music, but neither do the throw away lines in actual print. Pretending to be clever in print, safe from any feedback, is about as brave as being gay in San Francisco...or Liberal in Manhattan.

This particular forum topic lets those of us lesser mortals remind the writers that their positions on politics are often simply facile, simply opinion, and not rooted in any fact.

I wouldn't go that far, but I generally agree except for the fact that some of our opinions are more intelligent and better thought out than others.

most of the other specialty forums that i have posted to have a column such as this. most of the posters here are very intelligent and very opinionated. So to me, it makes sense that these folks would want to talk and debate about something else from time to time. i also like the idea that it helps to keep political and religious ideology out of the audio threads. i think the forum is better for having initiated this area.

I agree. It gets a lot of the drivel out of the general audio related sections.

Yeah, I got a problem with that, Comrade Commissar!

You don't get to speak for me, Comrade Earwig. Don't take something that isn't your's to have.

And since you're already thinking of your adolescent reply, fuck you too, Comrade!

You can trace the origins of the Open Bar to this particular thread. In addition, several people over time had asked for a general discussion area, one not bound to hi-fi, and so we created one.

I continue to be surprised that so much of the discussion here tends to be political, especially when readers so often say politics and hi-fi shouldn't mix. But you're left to discuss whatever you want to discuss.

I agree...I'd rather talk about cables or tweaks on audio threads than politics. The Open Bar serves a purpose..
