The left doesn't seem to do well on tv and radio. They do much better on the internet and blogs.

So-called Liberals/Progressives have a couple in the top 10 in talk radio.

#1- Rush Limbaugh
#2- Sean Hannity
#3- Michael Savage
#4- Dr. Laura Schlessinger
#5- Glenn Beck
# 6- Laura Ingraham
#7- Don Imus
#8- Ed Schultz
#9- Mike Gallagher
#10- Neal Boortz

As for blogs and the Internet. I would only have to guess it's a tie. I really don't read blogs. Only read references to them when they tear a mainstream media story apart. Also, major liberal blogs are backed by big money from the likes of Soros and Huffington (Both with very strange Americana accents) not to mention the now drowning Times in NYC and LA. Not very commercialized. But it doesn't have to be commercialized anymore than it needs to be governed.

The problem is that conservative talk translates better than liberal talk. Liberal talk just doesn't quite meet the supply and demand business model for the commercial airwaves. Thus, should government interfere by forcing how commercial radio and cable TV operate. Also, the FDA would surely include the Internet as well. It's a lose-lose proposition for everybody concerned. Even NPR would have to comply. I don't have a problem with NPR. I listen to it everyday at work. A lot of people mistakenly complain that NPR shouldn't have a slant since it is funded by the taxpayer. I don't even have a problem with that. I want to hear what they have to say. When it comes to broadcasting it is best to listen or watch all the resources to avoid contempt prior to investigation. If the FDA is brought back and NPR has to comply I would have to listen to something else because the opposing view would surely insult somebody. Listening to NPR at work is safe. The music is boring and the talk is boring so nobody is listening except for me because its low tone calms me down. Forcing them to broadcast a opposing view would only get somebody mad walking by the office. Thus, I would have to listen to heavy metal all day.

Yeah, great stats.

Bose is the top selling speaker brand.

McDonald's serves the most meals.

Danielle Steele outsells Shakespeare.

Pit Bulls outnumber any other breed of dog.

Thunderbird is the number one wine.

Bud Light the number one beer.

All of those things with higher ratings must be better than the competition.

Hey, Lamont.

Only the fucking idiot right has nothing better to do than sit and listen to AM talk radio, the rest of us have better things to do.

I guess Lamont just proved the lack of life and productivity of the right.

The stats show that internet porn consumption peaks during Limbaugh.

Eww, and that figures.

I don't think it's a tie. I remember reading somewhere that the liberal blogs pull in many more people than conservative blogs. Conservatives tend to do better with radio.

I agree. Conservative talk translates a lot better in radio. Conservatives are always angry, so they get people riled about their pet peeve of the day. Black and white view of the world, anger and self righteousness make for entertaining radio.

Err.. it's FCC, not FDA. FDA is the food and drug administration. FCC is the Federal communication commission.

Another correction, NPR hasn't been tax payer funded since the mid nineties. I think it was Jesse Helms who had a hard on for NPR and when the Republicans took the Senate, they pushed through the end of the federal funding for the arts and for NPR. They have been privately funded for over ten years now.

I don't have an opinion on the fair doctrine act. I haven't thought it through yet. It's a double edged sword. I'll have to consider it some more.

What's the matter with you guys? Especially, Buddha. This is just the beginning of a long 4 years. NPR is FM here in the sticks. Also, I don't know about the private funding. I do know it is broadcast out of the local state university. Are you thinking of PBS?

Anyway, FDA=Fair Doctrine Act.

Yes, and the difference is blue collar beer drinkers who drive a truck for a living versus college educated professionals who actually know how to turn on a computer.

I listen mainly to conservative talk radio in my car, so I hope they not counting me as a "fan" of those shows. I listen half to keep my mind sharp as I find all the holes in Sean Hannity's moron logic, and half out of disbelief. Sort of like slowing down to see a really bad accident on the highway.

Oh, yeah, I plumb forgot. They don't go for that there FM in conservative land. It's the snooty carpetbagger peoples with jobs who gots the FM and "Serious Radio" and what not.

Fine, leave FM and computers to the liberals.

You should try cell phones, though. It'll help ya keep one step ahead of the revenuers.

Lordy.

What is wrong with blue collar beer drinkers who drive trucks for a living? Those guys and the farmers, they are the backbone of this country, not some trust fund dickhead in some crooked financial firm. I have nothing but respect for the blue collar folks of this world. Ive found more wisdom out of the mouths of those people than I have anywhere else. I say this as a college educated classical singing backwoods bible belt born and raised country boy.

The strength of our nation lies in the blue collar types, not those who rise to power on the backs of those who actually work for a living.

First, for clarification, terrestrial (i.e. non-satellite) radio requires a license from the government for the frequency, and this is used for justifying regulating the airwaves and broadcast television. It is a lame justification, because the government only got in that business originally so that broadcasts could exist. Otherwise, people could just use whatever frequency they wanted or overpower competitors with stronger signals, etc. This does not justify regulating cable television. The Supreme Court upheld the regulation, but strongly and expressly based its decision on the fact that they were public airways that were licensed by the government. It is highly unlikely that a single member of the Supreme Court would uphold the doctrine applied cable television. Depending on the wording of the statute, it is far from certain such an act would be constitutional even if it only regulated licensed airways. And even if the Act purportedly applied to the internet, besides being glaringly unconstitutional, it would be an unenforceable joke. Without a VERY drastic reinterpretation of the First Amendment, there is no way this Act would be constitutional applied to cable TV, sattelite radio, the internet, etc.

The Fairness Doctrine would have much less practical effect today since relatively fewer people actually get their information from terrestrial radio and television, although it would restrict speech. (In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if satellite radio supported the doctrine, as it would encourage more talk shows to make the move - terrestrial radio would become about as highly rated as local access TV) The more significant effect, IMHO, would be the shocking symbolic infringment on free speech it would represent.

Think about it: the Fairness Doctrine places the determination of whether something is balanced or fair in the hands of the government. No matter how you slice it. And as soon as this regulation is permitted, we leave what we hear in hands of the party in power. I can also imagine the huge waste of taxpayer dollars that would go to debating what messages should be included/excluded, etc. What a nightmare.

Agreed. I hate the financial dickheads as much as you do. And blue collar folks are probably no dumber than most. I just wish people - all people - would think a little harder before forming an opinion on complex issues. I listen to Glenn Beck most mornings while making breakfast, and it's clear who he appeals to and why. Too many people are impressed with name calling, and are unable to distinguish between name calling and a logical argument.

Blue collar beer drinkers built the country, and white collar theives tore it down and outsourced it.

George W Bush was an Ivy league white collar guy. A cheerleader, no less.

Clinton and Obama grew up poor, in working class environments...yet the nutjob right wingers here hate them.

I think they probably just like being governed by their "betters."

I don't post at DU. I sometimes read it for mindless entertainment. Like Buddha's and Ethan's bullshit. One thing of interest to note about DU is that they close down their forums on such things like election nights. There is no debate at DU. Even the normal people at DU get raped over by the rest of the freaks.

One of the reasons the left does so well on internet forums is because they preach to the choir. They get so caught up in back slapping each other and telling one and all how clever they are that they do not develop any serious debate or argument skills. When they wander to real political forums where folk have differing opinions, they get whupped pretty badly and pretty quickly.

I wandered to DU at the end of the Clinton years. I posted a question on Hillary's cattle future deal (you remember, her magic business turning $1K into $100K in about a month) and was gone in about 10 seconds...they have a button on every post that lets panicked lefties call a 'moderator' in real time to remove all trace of thought in real time.

I was vastly amused...

So, now we learn that the right wing nut jobs are actually griefers who spend time at liberal sites trying to get their grievances acknowledged.

Yikes, no wonder we have the country in decline. The right wing spends all its time sitting around all day listening to AM talk radio and wailing at liberal websites.

I do get it, though. What fun is it after the first five or six years at Rush's forums just typing "Ditto" over and over and over and over?

If you don't wanna hang ALL the bastards, then you are a partisan hack.

A childhood friend of mine drives truck. He has three degrees. Masters in Business, Native History, and Psychology.

He drives around all over North America, spouting philosophy and having fun screwing with people's heads. The driving gives him lots of time to think, which he enjoys.

Come on. This applies to every single forum that is unified by a single viewpoint or set of ideals. There is usually some small debate around the edges, but generally it is all ego stroking. Sure, we have backslapping here among various groups of people, but at least we have opposing viewpoints.

Well- then why did you say Buddha was being racist by using the term? From what I can tell, the idea of defeating a territory, destroying it's infrastructure, and then making a profit by moving in during the re-build phase has been US policy ever since.

BTW- you a big fan of Nixon?

Also BTW: when a country starts thinking the educated are the "problem" they can look no further than recent history to see where that brilliant strategy goes: Nazi Germany, Stalinist USSR, Cambodia under Pol Pot, and let's not forget the Chinese Cultural Revolution. More recently the Taliban did a pretty job of ridding itself of those liberal intellectuals too. Soon as you vilify intelligence and education you undercut the entire reason we have the standard of living most of the world envies.

The Indians and Chinese will be kicking our asses in no time at all so long as we make education, science and everything associated with it the enemy. They GET the value of knowledge and hard work. Joe the Plumber and Sarah Palin can talk hick-town values all they want but those guys mean business and they learned it all from us.

Skewer the "politically correct" all you want, but how come they all get the label "educated elite" by all the non-reading politicians who claim to speak for the "real" Americans who live in isolated, low graduation rate towns in the hills and valleys? I also think there are plenty of HIGHLY educated, extremely elite conservatives out there who just conveniently play the role populist while making sure all those uninformed masses keep the trickle up economics going their direction.

Actually, they self label. The folk with a pretense of being an 'educated elite' confuse that conceit with reality.

Remember, the self described 'educated elite' also drive a vast mass of the poor, victim groups, and the self determined oppressed. If my political leadership pretended to be wiser than the common man yet produced little more than poverty and ignorance as a result of their leadership, I would look elsewhere for a new 'elite'.

maybe we should have a drink icon to show how much we have imbibed when posting

You're confusing me with The Science Guy on NPR. He has a Master's in Science. With the Fair Doctrine Act he will be forced to have some asshole Evangelical that we will be forced to listen to. Or even worse. Ann Coulter on NPR. Be careful what you wish for.

"more cracker, blah blah blah......."

"The fact that you assume your so-called captive audience you are debating against is somehow uneducated"

1) whether you are black or not makes no difference to me. Who cares if you are- or I am for that matter? And how could I know anyway? Cause of your Forum name? And even if I knew for sure it'd mean nothing to me in the context of a discussion like this. You can just get over yourself Lamont- pulling the race card is the stupidest and most ineffective way to make ANY (emphasis added) point. It's irrelevant.

2) I never thought you or anyone here was uneducated- maybe deluded, paranoid and over-sensitive. You guys are the ones that seem to bring out the "educated" and "elite" labels any time you think you're not winning a debate.

3) You're a lot funnier and insightful when you don't take things so seriously.

This thread is destined for the Dead Zone any minute from now. Think I'll leave now while it's still so fun.

Really guys- I thought conservatives didn't like to whine and cry so much. You guys need to learn to suck it up and act like the gun carrying men you say you are. I never heard so much moaning three weeks into a new administration, not even after W. didn't win the first time around.
